Learning German through the local gemeinde?

Has anyone seen this before - it is some sort of language course sponsored the local authorities. But it only seems to be in some areas (eg. in Horgen). Has anyone researched this, or been to any of the classes. Would be interested to hear what you thought. (I don't speak German and the website is in German.)

The website you mentioned says that those courses are (also) given in Effretikon, Pfäffikon, Brüttisellen, Dübendorf, Hinwil, Rüti and Egg.

I try to translate the specifications:

Courses...

- are low-threshold
- are given in small classes (limit: 14 people)
- provide free child care
- are mixed (sex, nationality, age)
- are built on each other (following European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- are based on hermeneutic foreign language tuition
- are given by qualified teachers
- are under cantonal control

Costs are very low: Max 5 Fr./lesson/person

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

It seems extraordinarily cheap for Zurich! Has anyone been on one of these? Can someone from outside the community attend (we're in Thalwil)?

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

It is called "Frauen Treff" here in SG. It is specifically for women with or without children. It is an integration programm for women(who just moved in or lived here but don't have much interaction with people) to sit, talk and learn German. It also cost 5chf/lesson.

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

Just in case anyone else is interested....

I rang our local Gemeinde and they also run a course. However, the course started in August so it's too late to join now. The next one starts in April. While it is mostly mothers/women attending, the courses are open to anyone. And I don't think you have to live in the community (although that might be up to the relevant Gemeinde).

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

Zug also offers these courses for females with childcare available or mixed classes. Levels are very basic A0 - A2, so unfortunately if you already know enough German to find the course and call up and ask about it then you are too advanced for the courses.

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

Hello all!

Researching on german language classes, I came across this website:
http://8004.ch/de/veranstaltungen/index/bildung.php
One of the courses, is something about deutsch sprechen. Oh my, my german is very limited. I am not quite sure how it goes, better give them a call on monday. I guess the place is near Zurich.

Greetings,
telemed

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

The above link is indeed for German courses for immigrants with little or no knowledge of German. If I've understood it correctly, one course is free, one costs Fr.5.00 per time (children are looked after).
Zürich - here. If you put your mouse on the little tram, you’ll see the tram routes and times they run which stop there.

Re: Learning German through the local gemeinde?

Try this link - the dates are for last year but there are loads of addresses and things to help you further.

I Googled 'Deutsch für Immigranten Luzern'

Hope you find something suitable.
