Intensive German, Tips?

I am an American looking to take an intensive German course in Biel. Does anyone know a great school? I have seen Inlingua and Berlitz but was wondering if there is a better one out there.

Re: Intensive German, Tips?

The Migros courses can be great if you get on one where the rest of the class actually want to be there, rather than being paid to go by the unemployment office.

Both of them are good schools. I am studying intensive German in Migros in Bern everyday. Well, let's say, if money is not a problem for you, Berlitz or Inlingua is a good choice, otherwise Migros school is also not bad, your class time is longer (2 hours 50 mins included 20 mins break), and the fee is cheaper, 630 CHF for 4 weeks, each level (A1, A2, B1, B2) they teach in 2 months. Before I asked in Berliz, the course is in 10 weeks (they said it is encluded both level A1 and A2), 2 hours everyday, toally about 3100 CHF.

I dont know how Mirgros in Biel is, but in general, I hear most of them are ok, my teachers are also very enthusium. Before I have also taken a lot of time to search for school and compared, from Berlitz, Inlingua, Benedict, and Migors. I like Berlitz, but they are expensive, finally I chose Migros, and after 2 months intensive course, I would say it is ok.

Last advice, personally, if is not very necessary, I think you should not study in intensive course, 2 or 3 days in a week is the best (semi-intensive or just normal class ?). You will have more time to review what you have done in class. Like me and my friends, we have to skip many new words in the book as we finish 1 book in 8 weeks - Level A1 (1 course book and 1 home work book).

Good luck and happy in your choice !

Re: Intensive German, Tips?

Thanks for the information! I will only have 3 months to get my crash course in German, hence the reason for an intensiv course. Glad you like the Migros program... I will have to check it out.

Re: Intensive German, Tips?

Like what others have said, try to avoid intensive course by all means.

I find it really hard to learn in intensive course, but again, it is probably just me.

OK not German, but French. I took an intensive course just before finding myself posted to Zurich (so it was real useful) and it was ok, my French is almost fluent now.

That said I in the French speaking environment for several years BEFORE going on the course.
