Study Abroad in Lugano

Hello! I am new to EF and am so happy that there is a place to answer all of my questions. I am thinking about studying abroad in Lugano. The only problem is I don't speak Italian...at all! I have some experience speaking Spanish but its just not the same. How much Italian do really need to know? Do most people speak English there? Any other information would also be appreciated! Thanks!!

Well, it depends what you mean by 'most people speak English'. A lot of younger people will speak some and it's generally possible to get oneself understood but the degree of fluency does vary somewhat.
If you speak Spanish, you'll find learning Italian easier, though, so perhaps that's the way to think about it.
Good luck!

Re: Study Abroad in Lugano

Hi,

I am a bulgarian citizen doing a master degree in Lugano.

Generellay, you can do well if you do no tspeak italian. You can do the shopping, and other related things.

BUT, if you may try to find a job, then the mission becomes impossible. I mean that if you are not extremely good in something, for instance (software programming) and you do not italian, it is impossible to find a job.

If you need more info, do not hesitate to PM me.

Good luck
