Cambridge Proficiency Exam

From November, I will be taking students through the CPE course and final exam.
A lot of work and preparation beckons and this is my first time doing this.

Does anyone have experience of this?
Any tips on books, etc?
I do have ideas of my own but would be grateful for any extra help.
Also have to prepare an entrance test.

Re: Cambridge Proficiency Exam

As far as I know there are placement tests available for the Cambridge exams, if that's what you mean. I haven't any experience of the CPE (apart from the oral exams), but I am teaching the CFE at the minute. As it's all geared towards the exam anyway (ie it's not an English course per se) there should be loads of useful material out there for you anyway. There are official books etc that cover the syllabus (I've seen them in work, just haven't used them).

Good luck!

if you've let yourself in for this then surely you are a qualified teacher and should know what's available!

Re: Cambridge Proficiency Exam

Thanks for stock answer, Keith66.
Yes, I am qualified and know which resources are available, but as it's my first time, I am open to advice.
I want to do it well!

Re: Cambridge Proficiency Exam

Have a look at Progress to Proficiency. I'm not saying it's the best, but it seems to be pretty good. I haven't heard the listening activities so I can't give a full recommendation. They have it in Orell Fussli (in Zurich) so you can take a look.

For the entry test, a simple method would be to give them a CAE exam (or part of it). If they stuff it up, they'd need to study that instead of CPE. The danger being that they will likely all stuff it up and you wouldn't have any CPE students...

For extra material you can use almost anything - youtube videos, newspapers, books. They should be able to understand a wide range of accents and topics.
