French levels

Hi! Hoping someone can help. I took A/O French 10 years ago - does anyone know what this equates to on the whole A1, A2, B1...scale?

Re: French levels

Hi Kalli,

I dont know what that equates to, but if you go to the ecole-club.ch website, you can take tests online to see what level you are. I started at the a1 test and kept going up until I couldnt do any more!

That can give you some idea of your level at least.

It doesn't, the A1, A2 B1 scale directly relates to how well you understand/speak the langauge, and has nothing to do with any exams you might have passed.

Re: French levels

Maybe. But I don't want to be in the situation where I take the exam now, get a really pants score so enrol in and pay for a course then sit there going, "Oh I remember that. And I remember that. Now I'm thoroughly bored."

Re: French levels

I was in a similar situation this year when I decided to continue with French after a 10 year break. I went to Alliance Francaise London for a test to determine my level. At the interview I insisted that I did not want to be bored and got assigned to an intermediate level. On the first day of the classes I mistakenly entered the wrong room, which was 2 levels above(From 2B to 2D- again a different scheme), and this is the class I remained in. It was difficult at times, but towards the end I always found the classes easy. Having said that, now that I am in Zurich,I have decided to find private lessons in French with the sole aim of preparing for an intermediate exam and going through everything I need to know for it at my own pace. This is going to help revise and learn anything new and know exactly where I stand. Hope this helps.

Re: French levels

Hi,
i don`t think you`ll be bored at B2 or above,I have Higher grade French, studied 2 years at uni and worked in french speaking hospitals for 5 years. presently doing short preparatory course for B2 which I thought would be a doddle for me.Actually much more difficult than I thought, it entails both written, oral and listening comprehension.
