French Lessons

I'm sure that this question has been asked before but for my benefit, does anyone know of a person or institution that does not charge like a wounded bull , who can teach me French in Lausanne?

Many thanks

Re: French Lessons

Well I think it isn't going to be cheap wherever you look - everyone has to put food on the table in this country... I guess it might get cheap if you get into a class with a lot of people, but I've always been convinced this is not a good way to learn a language properly.

If you want to save yourself some money have you ever thought of doing your lessons via skype? Your teacher can be anywhere, and you don't have to travel to the lessons. The quality of Skype is excellent and certainly good enough to hear every nuance of pronunciation. The other big plus is if you track down a teacher in a very low cost country you save yourself a bundle as well as getting individual attention!

I started learning Japanese face to face with a teacher in Cape Town for 6 months, then switched to Skype with the same teacher when I came back to Switzerland. It's been working quite well and at 17 francs per hour it's an absolute bargain (though the locals down there think that's expensive). The funny part is now my teacher has had other students contact him via the internet wanting to do skype lessons! French is a widely spoken language you should find teachers all over the world!

Re: French Lessons

Migros do language lessons in groups, i doubt you'll find cheaper than this.

I'm not kidding either.

Re: French Lessons

Hi there!

If you want group classes, you can also try the "université populaire" who give excellent classes, very high standard and good price: 620.-- for 30 lessons. http://www.uplausanne.ch/cours/cours...ours=701&seq=1

If you want to study alone, there is the "open university" http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q01C33 for 395 £

Hope this helped...

Kind regards,

Re: French

Hi

I am taking French course with Migros 2 hours per week, and it s far cheaper than what you listed. Did you find the right place? I pay 14 per hour. Let me know if you want more details.

Re: French Lessons

Hi. Do you have those details of french lessons at Migros? I've just moved to Lausanne and also need french lessons. What are the classes like? I've also been thinking of finding someone who wants to learn english and trading time to teach each other conversation. Has anyone tried this? Has it worked for them?

Thanks
Alex

Re: French Lessons

Hi Alex

Migros offers french lessons for all levels, and their price is the cheapest I can find in Lausanne(among all the languages schools). I would suggest you starting with the intensive course (10 hrs a week, every morning from 9:00 to 11:50) since you are a beginner, you can catch up faster this way.
http://www.ecole-club.ch/framedef_1....240CA571086C03

Two months course will cost you around 1,5k.

If you have limited budget, try the lessons offered by the university. Six weeks sessions for beginners, chf 1,1k, everyday 8h45 to12h00 .
http://www.unil.ch/cvac/page5646.html

If this is still too expensive, but you are living in Lausanne (not Renens, Pully, etc those little towns around lausanne), go to the Bureau de Etranger and ask for a brochure where you can find infomations about the FREE french lessons offered by the goverment, but you need to pay chf 10 or 20 registration fees. Those lessons are held once a week.

For the French-English exchange, humm, i dont think it works well, everybody speaks some english these days. I know French-German exchange is more popular. But of course you can give a try in the university.

Hi. I am new to this site and was searching through some information for learning French in Switzerland.

I found the way to find out the language classes for French, is to go to the main link for the Migros site, click Italian (it) in the top right corner of the homepage. You are presented with Italian version, click 'lingues' bottom left corner of the page. You then click on 'francese' of the choices of language (this is 'french' in italian language). You then get a pop-up where you select your city in Switzerland.

Then select your language level, from 'principianti' for basic (I think, a guess) or Livello 1 and so on according to where you think your language skills lie. You then get options to take an on-line test, or to get further information on the courses. Click on altre informazioni sui corsi to get the full listing for the course dates & fees etc.

If you follow these instructions and I have written them correctly, you should get to http://www.scuola-club.ch/framedef_1...23B3C631071B92

If you speak German, you can do the whole process, but select 'de' at the beginning (for German) in place of 'it' (for Italian).

I hope this helps!

Wow, that's a lot more than the Université populaire (Peoples's University?) of Canton Geneva. Here, it's a CHF 50 membership fee and CHF 50 for each year-long course. I don't if the quality's good, however. http://www.upcge.ch/description_cours.php

Re: French Lessons

Has anyone tried Rocket French. Seems like an option that can be taken alongside French course offered by Ecole Migro. Any suggestions?
