German beginner lessons for students in Zürich

Hello,

I have not seen a similar thread, sorry if I missed it.

I'm a new student in Zürich, and like many others non german speaking students I couldn't get into the German classes at ETH/UZH (they are fully booked...).

Are there any other facilities for students ? Is it possible to go to another university to take German classes (for free or a small fee) ?

When I was in London, I learned that there were free English courses for everyone at the French consulate. Is there something like this here ?

Thank you !

Re: German beginner lessons for students in Zürich

i know a lot of students going to Alemania for their lessons (I know because I went), but not for free (remember: you're in Switzerland!). If you want free then get a German-speaking GF/BF...

Interesting thread varioplus. I just arrived in Zuerich today (ended up having a later ETH start date, start Oct 1), so I assume I will be in the same boat as you. :-( This was my fear about having my start date pushed back... I guess I'll have to find out when the classes are offered again, or look somewhere else.

Alamania is your best bet. 2 hours a day for a month at 580 CHF plus 70 CHF for the books next course starts 11.10.10 at 9.00am

How about trying a language exchange with someone else. That will work out cheap (free!). You could advertise on here with languages that you offer in exchange for learning German from them.

Also could use the search function on this website, there are a few threads on German language classes that discuss various schools - Alemania i think generally comes out as the cheapest as mentioned but my experience when visiting in person was a bad one.
