Leaving switzerland permanently - what to do with car licence plates?
Hi all,
I have searched the forum for an answer but can't seem to find what I am looking for.
We will shortly be leaving switzerland permanently. We will be selling our car before we leave. I know we then need to do something with the licence plates.
Can anyone advise me on where to return these to? Also, is there a cost associated with this at all?

Many thanks for your help.
Yes, I will be leaving soon too! I will return the number plates to the authority for Baselland as I live in Binningen. Looking forward to getting some money back for the road tax and for the insurance. But I have to first sell the car. Any tips?

Make sure you publish the advertisement on as much websites as possible an keep in mind for has been said above (don't be too greedy). Also place the ads in shops (MIGROs) located in your neighborhood.

We are looking to sell our car soon as well. I actually asked the dealer where we bought it and they buy cars... do you think the dealers actually offer good prices? I've pretty much read on here that everyone uses autoscout. I'll probably still get a price from them just to satisfy my curiousity but didn't know if anyone had gone that route or had experience with trying to.

The dealer will invariably use the Argus, which calculates basic values with prems and discounts for mileage/options etc. You can get a copy i think from TCS or you can check on Autoscout which is good advice to judge what the dealer is offering you.

Thanks grumpygit for the input and advice. We will probably end up going the autoscout route but I may also check out what the dealer has to say so its good to know what to expect going into it.
