Moving out to a EU country - do I have to worry about customs inspection?

Hi,
As I will be leaving the country soon and I would like to take some of the furniture with me to my home country (EU) I was wonderring whether I need to worry about the customs inspection at the border. Do they require any special documents for these items (bills etc). Will I have to pay some kind of export fee/tax?

Many thanks in advance for your advice,
cheerup

I have crossed the border at St Margarethen (to Germany) several times with stuff, dogs, once with a 3.5 t van, and I received an inspection only once.
They checked the papers of the van and asked me to open it. As there were only household items they had no issue.
I am not sure but I think they do not work after 9 pm or so.

No, if anything you would have to pay import duty and sales taxes on the other side. However, if you are relocating then most of your stuff older than 6 months is exempt just like when you moved to Switzerland.

it depends on the stuff. i got stopped by customs going into france, forced to pay vat on their assessment of value and a fine for not declaring. an old desk is one thing, rugs, lamps, etc etc are something else

No, you don't. If you are moving out of Switzerland, and you have the relative documents, you can export your stuff with you free of Zoll.
This is what Austria publishes; the rules are the same with other EU countries.
