Getting AHV/AHV taxes from US?

Hi everyone, I have left Switzerland a few months ago after working there for one year. I managed to get 2nd pillar cashed out with the help of HR.

Does anyone know if I can still get my AHV contributions back? If so, how?

Only the amounts I contributed or also the part contributed by employer?

I have been taxed on the gross amount (so AHV/2nd pillar also taxed)while HR told me it is suppose to be done that way for US citizens working in Swiss and I should get it refunded after I file my US tax. Now that I have filed the US tax, what should I do to get back the pension taxes I've paid from monthly salary?

Thanks in advance

Re: Getting AHV/AHV taxes from US?

I was browsing the forums, I found this link http://www.bsv.admin.ch/themen/ueber...x.html?lang=de from user Longbyt. Very helpful.

So I can't get AHV contributions back until I retire because of the social security agreement between US and Swiss. oh well, only 40 years to go!

Does anyone know if the AHV account charge fees or grow with interest if I don't touch it?

Just an FYI:

If you are entitled to a Swiss pension, you may find that your US Soc Sec is reduced, thanks to the US Windfall Elimination Provision:

(Then again, in 40 years US Soc Sec may well be bankrupt, so no worries... )

That's true. I got the feeling that I'll need to rely on private pensions.

I would think a Swiss pension paid in Swiss francs would be okay to keep, unless you desperately needed the cash. The greenback isn't looking very healthy. Oder?

I think your AHV fund would not charge anything once you leave Switzerland.
