Furniture Donations

Leaving Switzerland and wondering if there are any organizations to which we can donate used furniture? Do they come pickup items from our house? Any recommendations appreciated!

Re: Furniture Donations

Try the local Salvation Army or Brockenhaus

Alternatively advertise on here under Free Stuff.

Be warned, the Salvation Army takes virtually nothing - definitely no IKEA stuff or anything flatpack. They only seem to want to take expensive solid furniture.

Re: Furniture Donations

How about Brockenhaus? Is it free to ask them to pick up the furnitures?

Re: Furniture Donations

You need to find a Brockenhaus nearby...

Or advertise on the forum...

Or you can pay a removalist to dispose of the unwanted stuff. They will charge you for disposal and then probably deliver half of it to the brockenhaus...

It really depends on the Brockenhaus, but I have found them to be quite picky in what they take and don't take. Interestingly, they prefer old crap to modern design maybe because they think the new stuff is from Ikea?!

My experience is that they can take everything, but if they think it is not sellable they will charge you for disposal. This typically costs like 1 CHF/KG. If they can sell the stuff, they pick up for free.

Re: Furniture Donations

Glad to hear you are sorted with temporary accom. There is so much stuff given away for free on EF, so keep looking. If necessary I can help with transport if you pay cost of diesel, as we have a trailer. Get in touch when you've settled then come up and say hello. Will you have a car?
Perhaps should organise a Neuchatel meet up with a picnic by the lake soon- to welcome your arrival. Safe journey and don't hesitate to ask for help.
Bienvenue à Neuch. Cup cakes - you'd be lucky- a crumble is more likely here.
