| | | My final flounce and escape from paradise
Hi folks!
I'll be leaving CH pretty soon, and it's with a heavy heart that I compose this farewell message. Personally I think it's just cholic as I had a pretty heavy dinner I haven't been a prolific poster but I do have, embaressingly enough, more than 1000 posts, and I thought a formal flounce was in order. And also a bit of the 'ol navel-gazing.
When I first arrived in CH, I had nothing except the clothes on my back and CHF150k. Knowing that it would sustain me for barely a month, I began looking for a job and eventually landed one with a swiss consortium, and have worked there the entire time I've been here. 6 months into my stay I discovered EF. At that time, it was like a cowboy town, a lot of fiercely useful information, even fiercer discussions but taming the crowd was a tough job, and I did not envy the mods. I joined EF, read the terms and conditions, and tried to be useful and informative where I can. I perused the threads and learned, lol'd at the abundant wit and humour, stifled my laughter as I came to the threads on the 10pm rule. I was there when the EF6 got banned, unbanned and the mods involved left, I still miss the posts of some of them. I also had access to the disputed ROT territory, and I'm not ashamed to admit, I quite enjoyed the company of the fluffeh ladies.
There's useful information as well as noise, but I think more useful. There's aggression towards newbies and fluff, but on the other hand enough conviviality to go around. There's a lot of low level sarcasm, but clearly a lot of quality humour too. All things considered, I find there's balance in the microcosm we call EF and I've always been glad to have found it.
I'm leaving CH for professional and personal reasons. On the professional front, I had to revaluate my plans when my role here was made redundant last December. My former company did offer me a management role at a subsidiary in China, but there was a huge pay-cut and the lack of stability within the company itself convinced me to seek other pastures. In the couple of months that followed, I had a few offers in Switzerland, Germany and Singapore. The last offer was with a subsidiary of a german car-maker and the most interesting one, and I'll take up an interface role between Germany and Asia-Pacifc. I'm currently being shown the ropes here in Stuttgart, before I head back in July.
On a more personal note, I've never felt at home in CH. I find the locals rather parochial, or in the local vernacular, "kantonal". And I feel bad saying that, as I do have a few close swiss friends, though all are 2nd generation immigrants. Unfortunately, that has been my experience.
I'd like to express an all-round thanks for the laughter and wisdom and special thanks to the mods for doing a great job at an unenviable task. If there're questions about some of the info I've posted in the past, feel free to pm me, I'll check in from time to time, but I don't imagine I'll be around much.
Well, that's that, so long and thanks for all the fish!
H

Best wishes for your future career. Others have found that they cannot totally leave EF even though they have moved far away. I doubt if it will be your last post here | | This user would like to thank Deep Purple for this useful post:

Best of luck to you, Hsiang! I did search for "EF6" and "ROT" after reading your farewell post, with no success. I guess that info departs along with you! | | This user would like to thank Textoch for this useful post:
