Swiss Post's international parcel economy is good. Make sure you know the slabs of weights, e.g., from ZH to India for 5 kilos is 65 CHF and for 10 kilos is 92 CHF. If you have 5.1 kilos, they will charge you 92 CHF for sure!

Best,
- D.

Tip No. 3 - assume your favourite jeans, trainers and t-shirts will be cheaper in Lucknow than the courier costs.

Re: Courier my Stuff - ZH to Lucknow, India

I just sent a 15 KG parcel from Zurich to Bangalore using Swiss Post. You need to complete a form online and print. Take this with your parcel to the nearest post.

Points to Remember:
  1. Use 'Others' if these are used goods and not 'Merchandise' while self-declaring online.
  2. Declare prices carefully. If the price is more than 10000 INR, you will have to visit the Customs attached with post office in India(usually state capital) to pay tax/bribe.
  3. Keep a copy of invoice(highlight items part of parcel) with the parcel. All parcels are opened for inspection(regardless of declaration). At times Custom releases parcel when they see the invoice and total cost within permissible limits.
  4. Expect a couple of unique items to be missing when you receive the parcel. If you complain, they will ask you to prove it was part of parcel. They do not accept self-declaration
  5. Usually the parcel reaches the state capital in 10 days. Custom may hold up your parcel indefinately unless you visit personally.
