| | | From Basel to...Brussels? Is there an EF like forum in Belgium ?
Hi guys,
I had a very interesting day yesterday as I went through a series of interviews to work in a company in Brussels. I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar page to this one but catering to expats in Belgium? I found expatica but it is not quite the same I have not made up my mind yet and to be honest I have not been given the job either (yet) bu tI am very hopeful.
Any ideas, comments will be appreciated |

You can look at xpats.com which I think is the nearest you will get to EF there. I know you don't have kids (yet!) but the Brussels childbirth trust is also quite useful. There is a lifers group which organises events and stuff for adults (without kids).
We've just come from there so I can give you lots more info about different places if you want to Pm or email me. I'm curious as to who you'll be working for too. Between us the OH and I have quite a bit of experience with the pharma and biotech industries in Belgium.

It is a complicated situation guys, not only the fact that I will be able to get brown sugar ...My job is getting very monotonous and I have no chance of training (like, at all) and I am upset because both our request for adoption and the study visa for my brother were denied, hence I am not very hapy with the Swiss government...

I seem to recall it took quite a while but she ended up with 2 lovely kids. One was from South America somewhere (not Peru) and the other from Azerbaijan (spelling???)
Belgium is not perfect by any means but there are a lot of advantages to living there.
And it's true brown sugar is very easy to get.(self raising flour too!)

I am sorry to hear about the news Angela. I suppose plans to acquire a property will also be shelved. I am eyeing for the Dutch German border in the next 12 months or so myself. In Belgium, there is our Joey82 ( possibly other members ) to keep the EF spirit alive.
News from the Administrator's office ( Editor Bob ) indicates that there are no plans yet for a forum but things might change once.

I've never actually lived there but know plenty of people who managed really well without an EF in Brussels. Maybe because there are even more expats, diplomats, EU-ats... all manner of ats, all getting by there without free beer, that it isn't necessary.
You can always stay on here for the extra company anyway.

I haven't seen any sites like that in Belgium as yet, but as soon as i do , i will let you know.
Belgians are more hands on, we just go out to the pub and meet a thing we surely must do when you are over Angela
I spend a good bit of my job hunting days in and around Brussels ( love the place) and i know another member who is working her way up to Brussels if all goes well, so you will not be alone.
Bit of a bad week weather wise but since i came back (remember the last time we met ) we had nothing but good weather.
If you have any questions about the country, the people ( we are a lovely bunch ) housing, rules and regulations and the drinks, do ask and i will help where i can.

Joey!!! YAY!
I will pm you definitely, I am very interested in the TAXES, I know they are pretty high but also living there is not as expensive as it is here...I saw a house for rent 20 minutes from where work would be at 1000 euros a month! Almost made me want to move right there and then!
I would work (fingers crossed( about 20 minutes from Brussels, beautiful area!!!!

One sad thing tho.. like Switzerland, we have no Kfc in Belgium but no worries, we can always setup a "chicken run " - only this time we will all fit in 1 car and won't upset the places with 30+ people hahaha

Belgians are very laid back and easy to get around. Their laws are relatively lax especially for student visas etc...I actually like Brussels!!
