Re: Mobile Phone Contract...

I just left the Orange shop and they told me that my initial 2 year contract had ended a few months ago, and I was automatically enrolled in a new 1 year roll over plan. So now I am under contract again!

It's 300CHF to cancel, or switch to the 10CHF a month plan and ride it out for another 10 months.

I showed them my 'Abgemeldet' docuement that I just unregistered, but they said that it doesn't matter anymore, they changed their policy a few months ago.
bah! so now I am stuck with 10 more months of service at 10CHF a month, or cancel now for 300CHF.

Either way, there doesn't appear to be any 'free' way out of the contract anymore.

Re: Mobile Phone Contract...

After reading the article that one could possibly cancel without penalty when they leave Switzerland. I wanted to try it in the UK as I hv a running mobile contract there. (the principle in the UK is the same. You cancel your contract before its due, you pay the rest of month x your price plan)

What happened with me was unfortunately I singned up a new 18months contract with unlimited internet as this option were disappearing or pay higher monthly price plan to have when my hubby was in process of changing job suddenly after 2 month I entered the contract. And less than 6 month of my contract, here I was in Switzerland.

First of all I tried to change price plan to cheapest. No luck. And asked them whether it is possible to cancel without paying huge penalty for my remaining months. No luck. Buy she asked me what I was gonna do in the meantime. It sounded like there was a possible negotiation. But I wasn't interested in what she got to say. So I answered just let it run n hung up.

My advice is don't enter if you know you are not gonna fulfil your contract. Or get only 12 month contract to minimize your loss.

They gave me the same speech but then I searched on their website and found this: http://www1.orange.ch/en/support/bec...ustomer/expat/

Check out the "useful tips" section, send an email to info@orange.ch (double check the addres - I think that is the correct one but am not 100% sure) and paste in a screenshot of the page. Then write that "per the website you want to cancel". Attach a scan of your deregistratoin and they should give you no troubles.

Something similar worked for me, However I had sent a letter, raised a support query and walked into a shop. At each case they where not aware, in both cases they all had different answers. So replayed to their support email, told them it was unacceptable, I waited out a 2year contract, with the best part of 18 months not been happy and I not "differing possible customers" to them. In they 24 months they had not delivered a consistent HSDPA network within their contract and worst of all they showed no effort to follow-up on customer issues. Their shops, telephone support and email support work differently and can't check each others systems.
Once I listed my awareness of these issues, I was able to convince them that "Worse thing you can do is keep unhappy customer" but showing some mercy they can have me as a pre-paid customer,

Abit of give and take my contract is now cancelled. But really stand your ground, Telco's are under pressure and the last thing they want is the lowest paying customer costing them time.

Not my experience. I need to cancel my 24 month contract iPhone 4S because of my imminent move to CH. I have 20 months left @ £36/mo which is £720 if I honour the full contract. Orange.co.uk confirmed that my buyout today would be £424 and probably £390(ish) on 1 March when I move.

Maybe I am wrong but in your case if you give them 2 months notice, you can cancel your contract. I think I read it somewhere. When the contract renewed automatically, you can cancel without penalty but 2 months noice.

Lucky you!!

After seeing your article I tried my luck again.
But Tmobile wants me to pay whole remaining months x price plan as a penalty.
I will just let it run for another 8 months. Hooray~~
