I am leaving switzerland on the 1st of August. can anyone help me where i can get the deregistration letter from in Lausanne? i undertsand that this paper is needed to cancel insurance, mobile or any other subscriptions. is this correct? is there any advice anyone can give me regarding any experiences they have had or any difficulties you have had?
You need to go to your Gemeinde / Stadthaus and tell them you need to de-register. Then you will receive a form from them. In the form you need to get couple of signatures. First signature from "Steueramt" department and the next one from "Energie" department. Once you get these signatures then hand over the form back to your Gemeinde / Stadthaus. Then they will give you a signed/stamped letter.
You make copies of this letter and send it to all the places that require it.
When you de-register give your last date in Switzerland as 31st July and not 1st August. You need the letter from the Stadthaus to cancel your health insurance and if you give the leaving date as 1st August then your health insurance company will happily bill you for the full month of August.
This has just happened to me and I'm now locking horns with the evil empire to try and reduce my payment to just the time I will be in Switzerland.

Also, I'm not sure about your Canton but in Zurich be prepared to pay a small administrative fee for the official departure letter. It is chf30 per person.
