I have tried various links posted in this thread (including UPS) and got quotation from various companies. But, honestly, they quote more than the value of the shipment.

here is the situation :
I have four boxes of used personal items that I need to ship from Zurich end of August and receive in Oregon US at the beginning of November. Can anyone suggest a shipping company ?

I haven't done the research but we moved from the US to CH with about four boxes of stuff and found the cheapest way was to pay the extra baggage fee from the airline and bring them to the airport with you. Depending on the airline and if you check in beforehand online, it will be as low as $40 USD.

Which might perhaps be a nice way of saying "Sell/dump/give the stuff away here, and buy yourself replacements in the US."

20K's of shipmenet through Die Post will cost you 150+ Chufs.. and from what I understand, this is the lowest you get..

I'm currently using Excess Baggage based in London to send by airfreight 7 boxes to California. Bid was 930 pounds which was considerably less than other bids I received. DHL supposedly will be contacting me soon to pick up tomorrow. Can't say yet how good the service is, but if you're looking to ship air, this seems to be a relatively good price.

I heard about Excess Baggage from the English Forum. It's a UK based company and they won't pack your boxes for you but they will ship from Switzerland to US.

I'm also leaving Zurich and want to ship 2 boxes of just clothes etc (no furniture) to Ireland.

Any advice on how to do this as cheaply as possible. Flying with SAS via Copenhagen to Dublin. It was a good deal for a one way flight. I love flying with Swiss as there is never any hassle with baggage or anything for that matter however, their one way flights are frighteningly expensive Anyone know if SAS are client friendly on excess baggage?

Orla, measure the boxes, weight them, and have Die Post give you a quote (or use their website, it's quite simple and straight forward). I recently had to ship giveaways to some of my company's European offices and after reviewing some 10+ quotes I stuck with Die Post...by far the cheapest option.

I found extra baggage fee in airline is more expensive than post, any idea for cheapest rate from swiss to USA

if you also have high status on one of them even better.

You can possible get an extra check in or even free kgs.

All in all, I have seen people take box loads of stuff at the airline, when traveling with multiple people you are even beetter.

I would suggest using excess baggage option through an airline company. It is usually much cheaper if you only have a small amount to ship.
