Anyone shipped furniture within Europe by train?

Hi
I'm planning to move a few large items from Zürich to Austria and got some crazy quotes from road delivery companies

Has anyone tried moving furniture as rail freight? SBB website is aiming higher with stories about how they have moved ferris wheels!

Doesn't surprise me at all.

How big are the Items and is it a one off or a regular? If one off I'd hire a truck personally and get someone to drive it... just my 2 rappen

I would personally contact the "man with van" lot on here and ask them to drive it for you. They will be able to asses what will fit in their vehicles and even if they had to hire a second it would be far cheeper. All of that is large Sprinter territory not truck...

...and given the difference in labour rates, I think I'd start my search by looking for an Austrian company that will come to Zurich to collect the goods, not vice versa.
