I am hoping someone can help me with a few questions. Our family has been looking at the possibility of moving away from Switzerland. WE would need to ship a container across to either the UK or US. Like I said nothing is completely decided yet, so we are just testing out the waters. Does anyone know of a good removal/shipping company that is reasonable? I have gone through google a few times but would like a personal recommendation, as it is all our belongings! What are the costs we are looking at, again looking for personal hearsay, or experience here so we don't get ripped off. Anything else you would like to add towards advice, or things to do towards cost cutting would be appreciated as well for leaving this country. Thanks again, and have a nice crisp day.

We got three quotes as we are moving to Australia in a couple months time.
We got 2 Swiss companies - Keller and Swiss Moving company

based in Lausaune and then an Australia moving company. The quotes from the Swiss companies were about the same and said that we only need a 20 foot container. However the Australia company's price was almost double as they said I needed a 40 foot moving company.

In each case the international mover would contact a local mover to view your house and personal effects to determine how much cubic space is taken up. This occured for both the Swiss Moving Company and the Australian company. However, the keller company have an office in Basel so they did not need to contact one of their network movers.

Other thing to be mindful of is what time of service is required full packing and unpacking or where you do some of the packing i.e. non-breakables.

Insurance also varied depending on the company. It ranged from 2% to 4.5%.

I just got a quote to move from CH to the USA (cali) for 20k cubic feet at
10 000 dollars. almost fell out my chair. so not using that company and not gonna recommend it.

We had a quote for 300 cubic metres at 8k chf. Packing and unpacking. Is that good?

Yes I totally agree with you. I sold nearly everything on this website and for the remaining clothes etc I am sending back via DHL in Weil am Rhein in big 30kg boxes for 120Euros each! So much cheaper than sending by ship I tell you! For shipping I was quoted 3000CH for 4 cubic meters, such a rip off, I will save so much by posting it back.

If you are thinking of moving to the UK try and get some quotes from the UK as you can usually get a deal on their return journey. I know there are not so many moving from the UK to France these days but they are still moving all over Europe and you should be able to get some deal as the last thing they want is an empty van to take back to the UK!!

He is even coming by end of november to have a look but I am however a little weary about it being a scam with all the break ins recently....all looks legit paperwork wise etc etc but still....what do you guys think

If you are going to the Uk try Crown removals, they are cheapish UK to CH, guess they cant be that expensive going the other way. Not used them myself but had others recommend them

Our previous experience of moving from Switzerland to New Zealand with Welti Furrer was very good. Would definitely use them again over previous experiences with Crown and Allied Pickfords.

100% was it Private or through your company?

It was private. I am not here with a company but through marriage.

No problem. They are a local company so unless you bump into them or know the name, people wont find them doing searches online where you get swamped with the big Internationals, but they are BIG is Switzerland and very good.

Naturally they have partner companies all around the world that do your unpacking etc.

I shipped a container from the US to Switzerland for about $3800.

It is certainly more expensive the other way around.
