| | | Looks like we're out of here
I'm accepting a new position in San Francisco (starting in early April) in order to be closer to my mom (dad passed away last year). With any luck, we'll get her to move out of Alaska and in with us. Even though I'm taking a hit in vacation days compared to here and a slight hit to pay, I get good bennies and the new place is one of the places to be in HPC. I also get the Sierra Nevada back. The wife will actually be able to get a job there, too, unlike sleepy insular high-unemployment Ticino. Now we just have to get rid of stuff. We have a fair bit of Ikea stuff (e.g. ginormous Pax wardrobe) that we bought new two years ago and an '05 Mini (automatic, 88000 km) that we'll need to get rid of. Will post ads for all soon. | | The following 24 users would like to thank phdoofus for this useful post: | adrianlondon, Assassin, Castro, chandra, fatmanfilms, J.Marple, kodokan, lifeisabuffet, lilith, lost_inbroad, meloncollie, Mrs. Doolittle, MrVertigo, Mud, MusicChick, Nil, NSchulzi, Peg A, Piafia, Raechel, Russkov, Sagitta, slammer, TidakApa |

Congrats on the new position and all the best with the move. IIRC you have a parrot don't you? Will it need to be quarantined? (If you don't have a parrot then disregard the question, I must be hallucinating....)

Since we never take them out of the house to meet other birds, it's pretty much an infinite quarantine. :-)

Of course, housing prices still suck. | | This user would like to thank phdoofus for this useful post: | |

" Looks like we're out of here"
You mean, out of CH, not out of here as in EF, right
trust me
Edit: and that's my good old friend above beating me by a whisker! Yes, indeed, enjoyed your posts

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, and it will be sad to see you go from the EF.
This being said, congratulations on the new job, and I'm sure your Mum is pretty happy about you being closer to her.
Good luck with everything, and I hope the move goes smoothly

Where in SF will you be living? If you need a place let me know. Will you be staying in the city or closer to San Jose?

The job is actually in downtown Oakland right next to the 19th st BART station so I'll probably be trying to find some place near a BART line. I don't think I'd want to live in SF proper and would prefer to stay in the east bay but that may not be up to me..... Unlike our move here, we won't have a chance to find a place to live before we show up.

Congrats on the new job and best of luck dude ! It really sucks for us that you're leaving but I'm excited for you and am sure that it's going to be great. SF is an awesome city, which you already know. Do please poke your head in from time to time with updates and just to say hi- you have been a super solid EFer and you're going to leave a noticeable vacuum .

Im sure you have already been all over craigslist.org, but if you need something in a pinch let me know. I have a few places in the city and in Napa. | Quote: | | | | | Don't know yet. Ahhh, welcome (back) to the Bay!!! Lovely here, sunny and fab. Spent the day on the beach today... Oakland still has accessible prices, so it would be a good choice, and from what i've been reading, it looks like it has a quite hopping young nightlife...
The Piedmont hills are lovely.
Zuger, really??? A FEW places? Do tell more...

I'm just a tiny bit jealous - SF is one of the best cities on the planet.
(Switzerland's and EF's loss though.)
Congrats on the job, Phdoofus - and wishing you all the best in this next chapter.
