Clouds, silver linings: leaving Switzerland for Belgium

Oh damn blast and bugger it all to hell. This last Weekend Slammer moved into the new flat.
This morning we get the info that the company has been flogged to a Belgian fortune 500.
So we have been informed that either move to Belgium or.. well do the math.
So Looks like I will not be even unpacking the boxes, just when I thought I would make a stand in CH and have a home, it`s uproot and start again.

Could have been (slightly) worse; you could have just finished un-packing all those ruddy boxes.

Well thankfully I did not yet sign the gym membership for another year and can asve buying a Halbtax later on this month.
And on the bright side it means I don´t have to jump through the hoop to get my CH Sailling license and beg for a bit of boat shaped water on the Bodensee.

Sorry to hear it. Transition is hard, and it's nice to put roots down somewhere.

Wish you all the best on your new horizons and hope you find the silver lining as it all unfolds.

If someone was offering me the same money I'd jump at the chance to work in Belgium instead of Basel (I assume you're talking about Brussels - if not then I retract my comment!).

Don't be fooled. Belgium has some of the best food I've ever tasted. Try some seafood in Ostende..or a pub crawl in Gent. Belgium is actually pretty alright in my view.

Re: Clouds, silver linings

Bad timing! But I loved living in Brussels. I'd move to Antwerp in a heart beat. Too bad my ear rejects Flemish. To be fair it rejects German & Swiss German too.

I'm sure you'll see that silver lining soon! Good luck!

Sorry to hear you'll have to go through the upheaval of moving again but I am just a teeny bit jealous.

We lived for over 13 years in Belgium and loved every minute of it. I would move back there tomorrow given half a chance.

Good friet, however and chocolate. Actually, there's a lot of nice Belgian food. Plus, it's pretty. But what a freakin' hassle. We moved last week too, and I'm opening the freakin' boxes today as we speak.

Bottoms!

However I have heard that there are some fine Belgish-folk who still like to post here now and then.
And they do decent chocolate up there.

If I would say Belgium is nice I would get shot (but Oostende and Knokke are super nice towns and there is a great mall near Antwerp http://www.wijnegemshoppingcenter.be...php?language=3)

Slammer is leaving CH

Looks like the Slammer will be leaving CH for greener, well flatter, pastures in Belgium. Is there anything I should take with me, a Belgian version of brown sugar perhaps?
And are there any tips on learning the language, maybe hacking the German?
Hmm! Moule Frites, Geuze, going Antwerpen, drink Bollekes.

I can't think of anything you need to take with you. I mean, you're not going THAT far away. We can always send you stuff you need. OR better yet, you can send us speculoos spread and kriek!!

Good luck with your move!

Definitely won't need to take brown sugar as they produce tons of it in Tienen. Good luck with the move you lucky s*d. Pity you'll be in the Flemish part though. The francophones are much friendlier IMO.
