Anyone left Switzerland without withdrawing 3rd pillar immediately?

Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows whether one can leave Switzerland without withdrawing 3rd pillar immediately (or even up to a year)? To ensure the tax refund which would only occur after the end of a fiscal year

As known one would be taxed for withdrawing 3rd pillar but the tax refund benefit could only be applied after the end of a fiscal year. If I were to leave somewhere October this year but I pay in 3rd pillar now, could I leave the 3rd pillar as it is till the end of the year? Another benefit is of course the better interest rate....

Thanks for the sharing!

When I went to de-register they told me I could withdraw my 3rd pillar anytime after I paid my outstanding taxes. I believe that your early withdrawal will be subject to withholding tax (though I'm not sure how much that may be).

You can withdraw anytime after you leave, even a year later.

I left Switzerland and left my 3rd Pillar as-is. I was told there is a withholding tax if I withdrew early. You can wait 2 or three years and then withdraw without any penalties. My 2 years is also up and now I am trying to find the rules. Let me know, if anyone else has the answer.

Re: Anyone left Switzerland without withdrawing 3rd pillar immediately?

isn't the withholding tax applicable regardless of when you remove it? my understanding is any early withdrawal before retirement you will have the tax as you are de-registering the reitrement plan. What would be the advanatage of waiting until the end of the tax year? My understanding is this withdrawal has its own tax rate so if its in the same year you have income, or the following with no swiss income so shouldn't affect it either way?

I also thought we had to pay the tax-at-source whenever we withdraw the 3rd pillar when leaving the country. The only difference is one should transfer it to a low-tax canton to minimise the tax to be paid. Never know that one can benefit if one waits for a few years. Do you have some concrete success stories on that?
