Forwarding address required ?

I'm about to leave... p*ssed of with work, so going to resign and head back to UK as soon as. However... after looking at other posts I have to 'deregister' at the Gemeinde... am I legally obliged to give them a forwarding address in the UK ? ( I owe nothing to anyone, no taxes outstanding, etc. ) ??

Cheers

Re: Forwarding address required ?

Now what would happen if there was a radar trap last week, and you didn't notice the flash?

They would send a bill for CHF 100,-- to your address in Pyongyang, and get no reply.

The costs of your ignoring the fine will be added on to the bill of CHF 100,--

You would be on the most wanted list for the next 10 years.

About 4 years later you are on a business flight with a client, and the plane is diverted to Zurich. You have to go through immigration for your connecting flight and are arrested on the border and asked to pay CHF 100,-- plus Fr 115,-- costs. Your client isn't now very sure if he wants to do business with you any more.

So maybe just give them the address care of of your best friend in the UK.

(My ex-wife still owes Bern about CHF 10'000 in unpaid taxes, so she cannot visit her children here in Switzerland)

Maybe someone in Pyongyang will pay the fine for him.

Re: Forwarding address required ?

Yes.. I've just given 'em a legit. address. Apparently they don't give it to the UK tax-gestapo anyway... probably best. Cheers.

And if you've had your taxes withheld at source... how do you wrap that up? I've been told that tax fililng for 2011 will be in September 2012. So I'm curious what happens if you leave before then.

You will receive a bill or a refund, you will have to give someone a POA to deal with the tax office on your behalf.

You have to deregister, and the moment you deregister, certain processes follows on Tax etc.
We are in the process of doing this. Works like this (Kt SZ):
Time frame

-working in CH till 13.04.2012

-Tax return for 2011 had to be handed in before we leave CH (end or March2012). They have allready contacted us with a question, so they are working on this allready.

- Tax return for 2012: Gemeinde wrote a letter telling us to submit 2012 tax return by latest 30.03.2012 . Did not make sense since working till mid April. So went to Gemeinde and queried it, they had no problem at all to extend the 'deadline' and now tax2012 should be completed end of June 2012 (allthough we would file it long before that anyway). basically showed me that they are 'human' and somehow can make mistakes hehehe, but also it was great to get a extention on the tax form.

- If there is a house sale process involved ie Capital Gains tax: Been told that we would receive a provisional payment request from Tax authorities 2 wks before departure (they receive all the docs from the 'Notar'), and then we must submit final asap. This area is a bit of grey area for me, but I have been phoning the tax authorities and at best, this is what they have told me.
