The moment I had been waiting for...

I know that this section of the forum is called 'leaving Switzerland', but I have already left and arrived in Hanoi (on my way to Australia - and no, I am not Australian). I meant to post this before leaving, but I never managed to amidst the chaos of packing my life into boxes, giving over my flat and quitting 3 jobs.
I really tried hard to love Switzerland (specifically Zurich and the Zurich area) but even after 2 years and 5 months, I just couldn't. This was for various reasons (which I wrote about here - sorry it would be just too long to paste it here).

All I have left of my stay in Switzerland can be found here, and I hope that it can be of use to anyone in Switzerland or wishing to move here.

I want to thank EF for helping me find 3 of my two jobs, providing endless information, entertainment, and a window into the lives of fellow expats.

Thank you and GOODBYE!

Re: The moment I had been waiting for...

Hey, good luck with the move to Oz, I understand you are heading to Melbourne, my home town.
I read some of the reasons why Switzerland was not for you. Career wise you should have no trouble getting work in Oz as a teacher.
Melbourne can be extremely bad for hay fever, I noticed this is an issue for you. I actally get less hay fever here than I did in Melbourne. Melbourne is hay fever central in summer. For me Zirtec worked best.
You might also find that Australia is in many ways more expensive than Switzerland. Food is just as costly, in some cases more costly, especially alcohol. Rent is pretty close to Zurich, and bills such as water etc are higher.
I left Melbourne for many reasons but one was the increasing cost of living there, the multiple layers of taxes one has to pay, and traffic is just a massive headache. It has sort of become an over regulated society.
I dont want to paint it as all bad as Melbourne is great for events, access to beaches, a slightly more outdoors lifestyle (and no German).
I hope it all works out will be really interested in hearing about your experiences there.
