Hi all,

I am leaving Switzerland due to my fiance being posted further afield. We haven't had much notice and we are leaving in 4-5 weeks.

In order to cancel our utilities, does anyone know how much notice we need to give? Most of our bills are in my fiance's name. Will I be able to cancel on our behalf?

The person that made the contract with the utility needs to cancel it. You can write the letters but your fiancé needs to sign them. Keep a local Post Finance / Bank account open to collect any reimbursements from tax and insurance companies.

I've actually managed to sort out a few of the utilities on his (our) behalf by just phoning up.

I will definitely make sure we keep a bank account open for any reimbursements.

It's very easy to have your mail redirected via the post office. either to a post box, or to a very reliable family member or friend in Switzerland, or possibly an international redirection...
