You could try placing an ad here under "Free Stuff" in the marketplace section. im sure you'd get some interest. Where are you based?

I think some organizations like caritas might also take you furnitures for free. Otherwise there is always the brockenhaus if you are located in zurich...

They'll take away good stuff free of charge. Junk/not useful stuff they'll also remove for a fee.

Try with a "brocante"...i think they come pick up your items!!

All these organisations will come and pick up BUT only if the stuff is in good condition. They have learnt the hard way that some people use these charities as a cheap way to get rid of unwanted rubbish which is unsuitable for 're-homing'.

Does anyone know if they are adverse to taking Ikea - in great condition?

My local Brocki always has an IKEA item or two on display, and they seem to sell fast, so there is a market for them.

You might want to try (if possible) bringing the furniture to the sidewalk nearby your building/ house with a little note (take for free). You will be surprised how fast it will disappear I was happily and positively surprised by this once.

Another alternative go to the University whiteboards and place some adds in there leaving your phone number. Students will happily take your furniture.

Does anyone has any experience with HIOB? Do they pick up furniture for free?

It depends.

They're quite fussy what they accept. We had two perfectly good sofas and HIOB weren't interested unless they were leather. It's not like back home where the local second hand shops would take pretty much anything.

If they'll accept them then they should pick up for free.

Do you know if they help you carry it out of the apartment? I think I would be squashed if I tried moving my wardrobe myself.
