Moving companies for transatlantic move? (Update)

We'll move from Geneva to the U.S. in December. I have had quotes from Harsch, Pélichet, Tammaro Transports and "The Swiss Moving Company" - all prices are the same except the Swiss Moving Company is slightly cheaper.

Does anybody have experience with these? I found references on the for Harsch - which all seem good. Is anybody else familiar with any of these? Thanks! I've searched Google but can't find any references/criticisms for them in English or in French.

Moved from Switzerland to Texas

I was posting here several months ago when we were planning our move to the States and looking for references for moving companies.

We finally chose Pélichet. They used Suddath International in the States. The price we got was the cheapest of the quotes received (including from the 'cheapo' internet moving sites), just under CHF 10K. Packing (of a full 32-ft container) took a day and a half. Our stuff arrived 5 weeks later and was completely unpacked in half a day. Surprisingly little breakage - somebody dropped the computer which got a dent in it (but still works), glass - a crystal pitcher, cracked glass in the grandfather clock, cracked glass in the barometer, a couple of broken glass dishes - all our crystal glassware survived though. No problems in customs, the agent got everything through 2 days after the container arrived in Houston. Definitely recommend them.

Don't recommend Lufthansa though: our two dogs accompanied us on the flights (Geneva-Frankfurt-Houston). One of our dogs died during the trip and though Lufthansa are claiming she died of natural causes, we think her crate was loaded in the unpressurized, unheated hold for the Geneva-Frankfurt leg.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. You would think your pets would be well taken care of but regardless we keep on hearing such sad stories.

Thanks for the follow up. I wouldn't recommend Lufthansa either. I have had one miserable experience after another with them. Even when I do book with other airlines, some how because of them being Star Alliance members or what not, my flights often get sold onto them, and I am on their planes in the end.
It's not the flight it self, it's everything in between. I should start a thread about them. Sorry also to hear about your dogs, but it doesn't surprise me at all.

Re: Moving companies for transatlantic move? (Update)

Used the Swiss Moving COmpany from Switz to the US.

Crews were all friendly, and logistically everything was on time.

BUT - things were only wrapped in bubble wrap, no cardboard on the furniture. So almost every piece of heavy furniture has little dings in the corners, wood chipped off, etc. I tried to claim insurance, and after much going back and forth, they refuse to pay for the repairs. For each piece they are offering only $100. So for a 10,000 bedroom set that is damaged on each corner they offer a few hundred. They produced some conditions that were in the insurance policy but that I had not seen when I signed with the SMC.
