| | | Where to buy moving boxes?
I am hoping that someone here could give me some hints on buying good/strong moving boxes. Well, if not, then I will update some information about my experience of buying these boxes tomorrow. Thanks.

We got ours from Jumbo. We also asked our local Coop who gave us half a dozen banana boxes (you can't move home without these, it's the law ), and a shop in Baden which sells office equipment, who gave us lots of varying sizes.

But watch out -> people can (can, not will) have you over the table. We bought 100CHF worth of packing boxes from someone. When we collected them, they were medical equipment boxes. Good and solid, but I suspect the seller got them from work and so likely didn't pay a single rappen for them.. The actual cost was 110CHF, but I only had 100CHF, which she begrudingly accepted.. Annoying when you are there thinking 'you got these from work for nowt..'
On the other hand, you can sell your used packing boxes there too. A couple of years prior to the aforementioned rip-off, we sold 25 of our boxes for - dare I sheepishly admit - 50CHF!! Almost the same price as what you can buy them for in the shops. So, in light of our packing-box windfall, I didn't complain about the medical-box rip-off.
(It's like Ricardo; you can sell old stuff easily for the same price that you bought it. I had an Ikea sideboard that cost 200CHF (new). I sold it 5 years later on Ricardo (with a bit of water damage!) for, *cough*, 200CHF )

I've always just gone to supermarkets and asked for banana boxes - free, sturdy, stackable and less strain on the environment.

Thanks for all for your input. TO Gamebuwa, many thanks for your kindness, I wish I had lived near you.
This morning we have checked the boxes in the post office. They are kind of small and not strong enough. The local Coop does not have any boxes left for today, but tomorrow they could give us some.
We will ship our stuffs overseas and hope to get moving boxes strong enough to endure the tortures during the long international journey.
I will go to the big Coop this afternoon to see if they have anything for me.

There are only 4, but as they're on castors, they should move easily (with a bit of help).
Falsely advertised as: http://www.englishforum.ch/sale-want...ungetable.html
P.S. Tour your local supermarket and ask them to reserve banana boxes (which they only throw out). Strong cardboard, with lids.

Last time I moved I just asked friends and work colleagues whether they had any spare. Picking up two here and three there I collected enough to do the move. I gave the boxes back to their owners afterwards (with the exception of a handful who didn't want them back).
So it's always worth just asking the people around you.

I have lots of moving boxes you are welcome to have...for free if you collect them (moving is painful enough without having to spend to pack!). There are sizes suitable for books, larger items and wardrobe type. PM me if interested.

Dear Summergreen,
We have approx. 40 (!) very strong moving boxes, FOR FREE. If you're able to pick them up round Zug/Baar. They have been used just once.
Please PM me if you're interested.

Yoos

Same thing when I was working as a fruit delivery person, the boxes were carefully kept in order to get the deposit back from the merchant.

Interesting. Of the numerous places I've asked, never had a problem besides them having already been recycled earlier that day.
In any case, it might be worth clarifying that the OP is looking for SHIPPING boxes, not MOVING boxes. | Quote: | | | | | We will ship our stuffs overseas and hope to get moving boxes strong enough to endure the tortures during the long international journey. | | | | | |

I agree that Ikea is a good place to get them. The ones they sell are quite cheap (much cheaper than Coop) and are also very strong.
