Moving boxes of Personal Effects to Reading, UK

Hi, hello, welcome welcome EF people, nice to read you all.
I've had a search around and can't seem to find what I am looking for, I hope I am in the right thread (perhaps I should be in transportation)?.
Essentially, in two weeks ish, I'd like to move 7 medium size boxes (the coop large boxes and 3 smaller boxes, filled with personal effect, nothing new. It seems like a bit too little for a proper removals company but perhaps too much for the post? I'm having a bit of issues deciphering the french and german post offices sites.
Does anyone have any experience doing something like this? I live very close to the border (both FR and DE) and wonder would it be easier, both financially and customs/form filling etc, to drive them over the border and post straight, though knowing I probably won't have much flexibility the other side. Or would it be better to use the Swiss post, or a Swiss removals company?
If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it.
And indeed, if I've landed this in the wrong forum I apologize, just tell me where to move it (I have been keeping an eye on the transportation forum but doens't look like, so far, that anyone in a van is going my direction at the time I need.).

Cheers in advance,
demos

Have you checked the Swiss Post website for prices? A bulky goods parcel (up to 30kg) would cost CHF120 for economy (6-10 working days) delivery which would give you time to get sorted out back in the UK before your packages arrived. Just use the Calculate Prices section. All in English.

This is by far the most economical option for large packages. Only problem is there any way to get them to collect the parcels from you? There's no way I can lug the two large parcels I have down to the post office...

Um, don't think so, but you'd have to ask at the post office. Maybe buy a small trolley and wheel them down there?

I think its better I just get a taxi to the post office... 20chf is nothing in terms of the overall cost of shipping, and my old man is covering everything anyway.

Post service - excellent idea - hadn't even thought of that. Im sure I read once that a whole bridge was moved by post in the US because it was cheaper but I cant find the link.

Re: Moving boxes of Personal Effects to Reading, UK

It's always worth checking out the local post office fees for these sort of things. If you don't need stuff in a hurry they can be the best value. We found that on a holiday to the US some years ago. We wanted to ship back some stuff we'd bought, but didn't need immediately so checked with the US Post, Fedex and UPS for their economy service. US Post was the cheapest by $100 because both Fedex and UPS would simply take the parcels down to the postal service anyway. Parcels on economy wouldn't arrive for 4 to 6 weeks, but that was fine for us because we'd be home long before they were due to arrive. We sent back 3 parcels in all.
