Moving to London, how to move my stuff?

Hi Everyone,

In February I will be moving to London from Zurich after 2.5 years living in Switzerland and I was wondering if anyone could suggest me a way to move my stuff. I thought about renting a van and leaving it there but I can not find a company that provides such services.

Thanks,

Marco

Talk to this guy

http://whitevanman.ch/

He helped me move some stuff to Spain. He was extremely reliable and efficient as well as being pleasant and he helped me no end.

He's on the forum by the way, but doesn't post much. So best to contact him directly.

You could rent a van in the UK and drive it over fill it up and take it back. Takes time but its a nice trip if spend a few days on the way over or back in France.

If you rent a van, be aware of the different speed limits you may have to obey en route.

Hello Marco,

I too will be moving from Zürich to London in Feb 2015 and looking into transport options.

If you find such a rental van service, let me know, perhaps we could make it a joint effort!

Cheers,
Leyla

Never heard of such a Van rental service either way.

meantime maybe send a message to this man for quote & availability

Handy Man with a Van in the A3 Corridor

There are others on the forum too.

Also depends how much stuff, bear in mind Easyject let you take up to 3 suitcases, at a cost.

Seems you have much time to get organised, remember to give your rental notice in time in Writing by registered post.

Hi,
I am looking to move items from West Sussex to Zurich in February 2015 - Leyla and Marco if the timing works (if you are or are not sharing a van Zurich - London) maybe my things can be the return trip of yours?

What do you mean by 'stuff'? Just clothes, books, etc- or lots of furniture, etc- makes a huge difference to finding solutions.

I am likely to need to shift a few boxes back from Zurich to York in January/February 2015, so would be interested in a van share.

You can try http://www.sixt.com/car-rental/switzerland for van rentals. I rented one for 74chf for a day, but you need to check the milage limits and whether you are allowed to take van outside CH.

Re: Moving to London, how to move my stuff?

As an alternative to hiring a van, you could use a removal company:

Hi Victoria

Did you find someone to use your van going back? I need to move my things (furniture, etc) back to London in Feb so would be keen to use the van if it is available?

Thanks
Gayle

Note, if you are going to share a van, both drivers have to be present when the contract is signed. It is extremely difficult to add the second driver when the rental office is 900 Km away.

Hi,
I am using someone who contacted me on the forum under the name of Confloozed. He has a website and comes recommended. Suggest contacting him to see if he can do a back to back?

Confloozed gets my vote.

Had him transport some bits and pieces to my sister in London before Xmas.

What I think he is saying is there are different signs for trucks. Often times people overlook.

Re: Moving to London, how to move my stuff?

Hello folks! Anyone making the move from Switzerland to London in February? I would be interested in sharing a moving van. I don't have much (about four large suitcases about 30 kg each).

Also considering shipping my stuff with a third party - are there any independent businesses that anyone could recommend?

Would be very grateful for any advice!!

Thanks
