Cancelling General Abonnement when repatriating

Can anyone tell me what the conditions are for cancelling the GA when leaving Switzerland? I tried searching on the forum but GA is too short for a valid search keyword it seems, and I could not make much sense of the GA fare conditions on the SBB website either.

Do you mean you want some money back or did you agree to a multi year special price?

Re: Cancelling General Abonnement when repatriating

As far as I know you just need to take it in to your nearest station ticket office and hand it in. They will reimburse you for the amount remaing minus a fee if course.
I believe you can also do it by sending the card back to them by post.

I've never done this, but I thought that you could hand it back and get a pro-rata refund.

Re: Cancelling General Abonnement when repatriating

Refunding your annual GA travelcard.

If you no longer require your annual GA travelcard, you can return it. The refund is calculated per month of use and not per day. A charge of 23% of the purchase price for the first month of validity and 7% for any additional month will be subtracted from the refund sum, along with a handling fee. If your GA travelcard serves as a basic GA travelcard (GA travelcard for adults, GA travelcard for young adults, GA travelcard for students (ages 25–30), GA travelcard for senior citizens or GA travelcard for the disabled), cancellation is only possible when all the associated GA travelcards are given back at the same time.

Re: Cancelling General Abonnement when repatriating

Sorry I should have probably left some more info. I pay monthly so no worries about getting a refund. My main concern was whether there was a notice period, but I guess from your posts it is quite simple to cancel it.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Re: Cancelling General Abonnement when repatriating

Ah actually I just found this thread in the travel forum with some alternative search criteria: Cancelling GA

It explains the cancellation procedure quite nicely. Thought I'd leave this link here in case anyone in the future has the same question.

Unfortunately the SBB link in the old thread (2012) is dead so a person looking will have to work from the thread I posted above (until the next SBB website change).

I think this is the new link to the same info: GA general terms and conditions

Does not seem to be available in English though...
