Important info regarding sharing containers...

Hey guys,

I do not really want to ruin it here, but I did move in my life 6x via containers my belongings and one of the things I was constantly being reminded of is not to share containers unless you really know who you share it with and trust the person 100%.

If the person you share it with carries things they should not be carrying, good luck with the authorities of the destination country. The very least that will happen is that you will have to undergo through serious headaches and lawyer bills and the worst that can happen is imprisonment...

So yeah, I really just want to give friendly advice here, I hope it all works out for you that share things but you need to know, there is a risk factor here that often many people do not think about, due to money savings reasons.

tl;dr: sometimes it is worth paying a bit more because the scenarios above will cost you much more at the end.

That's why most people use a freight consolidator who stuffs the container and knows exactly what goes in

But it is a very valid point you make too, if you decide to share and stuff the container yourself.

Was this post about not sharing containers triggered by personal trouble experienced during your last (sixth) move, or is this just general warning for some reason?

Re: Important info regarding sharing containers...

I've heard from several people in the industry that the chances of something going missing is very high. Even if you use a company. Mine just arrived from the USA with my truck and all belongings in it. Passing customs as we speak and I hope nothing has gone missing.

I also hope it is not infested with bugs or spiders as she sat on the ground in Panama for 3.5 months (strike) .....

It was just a general tip/friendly warning due to the many posts I see here where people ask for container sharing partners. I mean, I am not saying don't do it, but it appeared a bit to me that some people are not taking this whole "sharing container" serious enough and my point was just to kindly point that this procedure is more serious than many might think, especially first time container users.

Re: Important info regarding sharing containers...

I contacted a few such companies and the quote from the crown was the best. Although i didn't use any of their services in the end, because my stuff wasn't that much after all.

Re: Important info regarding sharing containers...

Normally when it is shared it is sectioned off after each customer has loaded their items and kind of sealed. There will be a customs broker that will see to the paperwork of each section.

Alot of containers are shared by complete strangers Wetherby they know the people or not. Having the correct paperwork sorts it all out. And even when there is smuggling, they don't penalise sections that have separate paperwork.
