AHV/AVS refund

Hi everyone

My situation is rather unusual so i apologise if this has been discussed before but the search function did not reveal any information about a similar case.

I am currently under a fixed term contract with a Swiss company but working in Turkey (deployed abroad). Over the past 4 years i have been under contract around 36 months on and off and deployed all over the place (Egypt, Tunisia, Tenerife and so on).

Is it possible to withdraw my pension contributions to my bank account?

I am from an EU country (Bulgaria) but i will be leaving the EU to work in Moscow if that makes any difference.

Thanks a bunch.

Re: AHV/AVS refund

From the title of your post, about AHV, and the content of your post about pension contributions, I’m not completely sure whether you mean „AHV“ (the state retirement fund, also called „1st pillar“) or are perhaps referring to your contributions to the mandatory pension plan of your employer (also called “2nd pillar”, or “Pensionskasse”, or referred to the law governing it: BVG, in German).
Sorry if I’ve misunderstood.

Perhaps some of these links will help towards answering your question.

Re: AHV/AVS refund

I am also trying to figure out how can I request for a refund/reimbursement of my AHV (pillar 1) since I will be leaving the country real soon. I have written to the Swiss Compensation Office a few weeks ago but no reply to date. Does anyone know how should I proceed?

Re: AHV/AVS refund

Hello,

You should be able to contact the company which is being authorised to save your money (2nd pillar) and they will be able to tell you how to go about if:

1. Money needs to be taken out fully or partially depends on where you are heading to after Switzerland, e.g. EU countries and non EU countries do make a difference;

2. Money needs to be transferred to a blocked account or not

3. Procedure of withdrawing out the money...

I have had the same questions lately and they were all answered by the company that safeguards my 2nd pillar money.

Hope that helps.

James

Re: AHV/AVS refund

typically your company or third party handling the pension for your company will send you something once you have an end date and stated you are leaving CH. The rules are bit different if you are going to EU vs non EU country

Re: AHV/AVS refund

Somewhere in my in basket I have the forms form both 1st pillar (AHV) and 2nd pillar (employer) to totally withdraw the pension, and the 2nd pillar has said how much.
The rule is roughly, that if you are going / returning to a non EU country you can get a full refund of your dosh. If you are going (or tell them you are going) to an EU country then your pension has to be kept as a pension till 65 or whatever.
So, tell them you are returning to Turkey. Me, I'm going to Oz...
if you don't understand the forms, walk into the respective office and chat to them, they'll help, in English generally but sometimes only German.
