Shipping 50-70kg of books/clothes to the US

Hi all,

I'm in the position of needing to ship 50-70kg of books and clothing items to the US. I don't want to sell anything before departing. What options are there for doing so? I've looked into post finance, and it looks like this will run me something like 500 francs. Are there any other options I should be aware of / companies that specialize in this sort of thing?

One other option would be taking extra luggage on my flight back, but unfortunately I am not flying directly to my new location, and so it would be almost impossible, and surely more expensive, to bring extra luggage on my own flight. Does anyone know, however, if airlines allow you send luggage on flights you're not on, so long as someone can pick up your items from the airport you send to? Any information about possible services?

Thanks in advance

Thanks. I may try to find a way to make this work, but it seems difficult to get the shipment to Germany without a car. Is there a way around that?

Do you possibly have a friend with a car? Or could take the train to Waldshut, there's a DHL Paketshop inside the train station called "Eckert im Bahnhof", open from early morning until 20:00 daily.

Enter the postal code 79761 (Waldshut) in above link for details.

Let me take care of it. Just box it up and give me a little something for the effort. I am in Germany often. Including the start of next week.

Just wanted to add that I've met Confloozled in real life and I'd totally trust him with my stuff.

Re: Shipping 50-70kg of books/clothes to the US

Confloozed,

Thanks very much for making an offer! I've thought it over though, and I think for peace of mind it would be best for me just to take them to the Swiss Post. Some of the books I'm shipping are of sentimental value to me, and I want to handle them myself as far as possible. I found after looking into it that I can ship a larger parcel through them than the boxes they sell in the post, and this should save me some money, especially for the clothes.

Incidentally, your PM inbox appears to be full.

I understand. Although I have an excellent record of taking care of and not breaking any items. My inbox should allow for 1000 messages. Thanks for the heads up though.
