Hi
I found this thread and Im in a similar situation. I want to ship a few boxes from switzerland to spain and my intention was to use Ikea boxes. Are these boxes too weak??
Besides, I have a couple of suitcases that I want to ship to spain to. Does the Swiss Post also take suitcases as parcels? They are big and solid, I wouldnt expect them to break during the shipping.
So it seems Swiss Post is the cheapest option, correct?
I checked with DPD, it looked cheaper, but they told me I need a contract with them.
Thanx!

Did you go for Swiss Post in the end? What other companies looked good in your research?

I'd highly recommend these chaps, I used when relocating from the US to Europe last Christmas and they were outstanding, they can even price air shipping fro you, and it's not terribly pricey: http://www.shipping-worldwide.com/
You can calculate an estimate on their website, entering an approx. box weigh and dimensions.
Good luck.

If shipping by post you might find the postal service from neighbouring countries cheaper. Here, for example, is the Web site of the French postal authority: http://www.laposte.fr/Particulier/En...is/Les-tarifs2 |

Hello there,
In the Geneva/Lausanne area, I have just solved this problem using sea shipping, for what I consider a cheap price (CHF 700):
I'm moving to Sydney next week, and have all my belongings packed in boxes ready to be shipped. Not much though, 1.5 cubic metres (maybe even less).
I've tried many different companies, removal and shipping ones, and I've been quoted up to CHF 1725. The problem is that all my stuff is already boxed, therefore a removal company doesn't really have much to do in terms of packing and many said they couldn't do business with me. Also because I don't want door to door service (I don't have a home there yet).
The price I pay includes everything from my house (Lausanne area) in Switzerland to Sydney harbour. Although I will have to pay additional fees on collection (of an unknown value), for the customs, the unloading, and I believe also pallet fumigation.
Here's the contact I dealt with (who is at least French speaking): Mr Dominique Taret

Also check these links as there is paperwork to be done to import your stuff in Australia (haven't check it all yet):
I hope this helps.
Bye bye Switzerland - take care, you've been good to me |

They have an ICF service which is slower than P1 International, but is cheaper for bulk. | | | | | Hey, does anyone have experience with this option? And what is ICF? And P1?

Sea-mail is quoted by dimensions, air freight by weight - so if it's really heavy stuff (books) then it's likely to be cheaper by sea... | | | | | Dear Swisspea, thanks for this information!
I find this page about the normal Swiss postal services: http://www.poste.ch/en/post-startsei...l.htm#txt32043
However, I do not find information about the "swisspost seamail prices" you mention above. Can you help me with that? Thanks. | Quote: | | | | | Hello there,

http : www.safram.com | | | | | Hi Sebastien, do you think that I can also use this options to ship boxes to Lima, Peru? I need to decide very soon how to ship 5 or 6 boxes with around 20 Kg for each one. My flight is this Monday morning!
Does anybody knows more about the sea shipping option? Thanks in advance!

Just contact the air-cargo department of the airline that services the airport near your destination in Australia
This is usually the cheapest way to ship. | | | | | Hi Bacchus Wines! Can you please explain me how this option works. I am leaving Switzerland on the flight Basel-Amsterdam-Lima, and my airline is KLM. Do you think I can use this option? Is this cheaper? Are there special restrictions (weight, size, contents, etc.)?
Does anybody know something about this?

Great to see a few useful methods showing up here now. eg What's the cheapest way to ship boxes from Switzerland to Australia?
There was a huge gap between the Swisspost 20kg boxes (Australian weight limit) and the full service shipping container options which usually seem to be quoted at CHF10k!
As we didn't have furniture worth shipping, we were stuck in the middle ground for freighting some bikes, equipment, clothing and personal effects. We needed something in the middle. We looked into airfreight and found something which seemed reasonable. We used freight forwarding agent Horath AG Internationale Transporte in Glattbrugg. I boxed up our items and delivered them to their depot. We had 8 boxes totalling about 2m3 weighing 277kg (think that included the pallets). The cost using EmiratesCargo Zurich to Perth is CHF3.90/kg, plus the usual air transport surcharges and a fee from the company. It ended up economical in our eyes, compared to the option of selling/gifting the items here and re-purchasing in Australia. I'll add that the staff at Horath (small family firm, almost a boutique) are super helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Horath AG Internationale Transporte Flughofstrasse 41 P.O. I have a company from Frankfurt coming in and packing up our things. No furniture just everything else . They have quoted me €2300 for 4cbm + €400 for each additional cbm, to come and pack everything, take it to Frankfurt, group it in a container with other Sydney bound items, truck to Hamburg and on a boat to Sydney. It will then be all cleared through customs and delivered to our home an hour west of the city . It was by far the best offer I could find considering the size of our load.

I have spent quite some time researching best ways to ship by to the USA. I haven't found a good option for sea-shipping, unfortunately. I have about 200-300 kilos and don't care how long it will take to get there as I am traveling for 6 months after I leave here.
Best options I have found are through the cargo rates on American and US Airways. I have been quoted around 850 CHF for 200 kilos, with an average of 3-5 days delivery (someone must pick it up at arrival airport within 3 days and cost does not include the customs fees). You have to drop it off about 2+ hours before you want it to be shipped. Because I have only been researching costs, I am not sure if you actually have to reserve space on an aircraft or not.
