I am an Non EU, B permit holder who has been working in Switzerland for the past 4 years. Now due to a personal emergancy I need to return and be out of Switzerland for the next 6 months.

I talked to my employer in Switzerland about the situation and they have told me that the assignment that I was working needs a person and so they would not be able to keep the position vacant for the time I am away. They have suggested that we terminate our contract.

Under these circumstances, I am left with no other option than to accept the termination. I do hope that I can come back to Switzerland in 6 months and to work here.

My card type B permit does not list my employer and expires in Oct 2010.
Is there another way whereby I could keep my permit and possibly re enter Switzerland to find another job when I return in 6 months?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

You could ask your employer for an unpaid leave/sabattical for the 6 month, remaining as an employee but without a salary and a "pause" on your pension. That could maintain your "B" permit status.

Upon return and if they do not need you anymore, you could look for a new job here.

definitely don't take a termination as then your permit runs out and you've got bugger all hope of getting back in as they really favor EU pass holders now
