Swiss electrical appliances in the UK

We're moving back to the UK. What's the deal with electrical appliances bought here working in the UK? Obviously they'll need a different plug - how do you know what fuse? And will they work at all?

Yes they will all work. Easiest thing would be a 13amp fuse (UK Standard) which offers better protection than you get here in CH. Also remember beyond the fuse in the plug there are also fuses in you power distribution point (near your meter). TV is the only thing to check unless you have a multisystem/digital set

Re: Swiss electrical appliances in the UK

The power should be printed somewhere on each appliance.

This can be divided by 240 to give the current it uses.

For example a 3000W heater uses 3000/240 = 12.5 amps, so you need a 13 amp fuse.

As a rule of thumb, use a 3 amp fuse for anything less than 750W.

Most appliances should have a 3 amp fuse. Which is odd, since most plugs are sold with 13A fuses as standard.

Take a few Swiss plug planners with you - helpful for things like chargers, where you can't replace the plug.

I am also leaving Switzerland, and was wondering about our Samsung TV that we bought here - will that work in the UK?
