Moving for good to Italy: custom?

Dear All,
I will move back to Italy in a couple of months and I am planning to
rent a van to load all my furniture and personal belongings: (1 table + chairs, 1 bed, 1 sofa, a shelf and a small closet) plus books, clothes and kitchen stuff).
All used and not valuable (ikea and similar).
I searched the forum for details with no success, so I am putting some questions:
Should I do something for exiting Switzerland and for entering Italy?
Should I expect to be stopped by the Swiss and/or by the Italian GuardiaDiFinanza?
How can I prevent to pay hundreds of euros of taxes or waste hours at the custom?

I expect to cross the border in chiasso, but I could also drive a bit longer if necessary.....
Thanks in advance
Olivo

Contact the Italian Customs office and ask what you will have to do and what documents you need. We are about to move to France and this is what we did, they gave us a form to fill out and present at border when moving.

Love it: That is my new favorite website!

& Olivo, good luck with the move. I'm only slightly jealous.

Re: Moving for good to Italy: custom?

Thanks to all who answered.
I spoke with the Italian Custom and they say that one can show up at the Custom and they will evaluate the value and then one pays the 20%
except for Italians that return for good to italy after being resident abroad
for more then 12 months. The consulate in Geneva will provide the document
to transport freely everything.
ALl the info are here:

http://www.consginevra.esteri.it/Con...enza/Rimpatri/

but one needs to have been registered at AIRE.
