| | | Leaving CH - URGENT: The cheapest way to send boxes [Basel to Lima, Peru]
Hello All,
I am traveling from Switzerland to Lima, Peru, next Monday!
I will have around 5 or 6 boxes, with I think around 20 Kg in each one, that I will send to Peru. I would like to know what is the cheapest and the easiest way to ship them - It doesn't matter how long they take to arrive, as long as they arrive safely.
My flight will be with KLM and Air France, Basel-Amsterdam-Lima. According to my travel agency, in addition to the first baggage of 23 Kg, I can go with a second one by paying 55 euros. However, I would pay 200 euros for the third one, also for the fourth one, and so forth and so on.
In the Swiss Post, I was told that, in economy class, each box with 20 Kg will cost CHF 185 (142 euros), arriving in 25 working days.
In fact, they gave me the next price list:
For a box with 15 Kg, CHF 154 (EUR 118).
For a box with 20 Kg, CHF 185 (EUR 142).
For a box with 30 Kg, CHF 252 (EUR 193).
Therefore, I imagine that I can send by post the same 23 Kg of one additional baggage for CHF 235 (EUR 180).
As I am in Basel, it is very easy for me to go to Lörach, Germany, to ask about the German prices for this service. I was told to go to the station called "Wheil am Rhein" and ask there in the Lorrach post but I didn't have time to go yet. I would like to know whether or not it is worthwile to consider this option.
And also, it would be good to know what do you think about going to ask for the French postal services.
The content is mostly books and some few small electronic items as accesories, devices and stuff like that.
I think I don't have information about a sea fright option. I would like to know your advice. Thank you!

The cheapest way will be to send it economy, here is the German Postal service link: http://www.deutschepost.de/dpag?xmlFile=828
This is the table for shipping packages outside Germany:
Gewicht DHL Paket International Preise in EUR Online / Filiale Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 Zone 4
bis 5 kg 16,00/17,00* 29,00/30,00 34,00/35,00 39,00/40,00
bis 10 kg 21,00/22,00* 34,00/35,00 44,00/45,00 54,00/55,00
bis 20 kg 31,00**/32,00** 44,00/45,00 64,00/65,00 84,00/85,00
bis 31,5 kg 41,00**/42,00** 54,00/ -- 84,00/ -- 114,00/--
* Maximales Gurtmaß (L + 2xB + 2xH) für Pakete Zone 1/ EU bis 5 kg und bis 10 kg: 300 cm
** Preis inklusive gesetzlich gültiger Umsatzsteuer
Of course Peru is in zone 4 so a package of up to 31.5 kilos would cost 114 euros to send.
Good luck!

THe problem with freight, in general not here in CH...is that if you are not sending a lot of stuff it won;t make much difference in the price...of course I can be wrong | | This user would like to thank Angela-74 for this useful post: | |

Hello everybody,
I would like to bring my stuffs to Germany to ship because SwissPost doesn't offer sea mail. I live in Winterthur and I wonder where is the nearest post office in Germany that I can go by train from my place? I heard that Schaffhausen is closer but still I have no clue about the station that I should get off.
Please give me some advice. Thank you very much.

Konstanz probably has the best connections to Winterthur. The post office closest to the train station which accepts packages is here:
Marktstätte 4
Altstadt
78462 Konstanz
Opening hours
Mo-Fr 8.30-18.00
Sa 9.00-13.00
You may want to bear in mind that you are crossing a customs border into the EU.
Why don't you hook up with the guy who wants to pick up a mattress in Germany ?

Thank you very much, btw who is the guy you mentioned? I would contact him now. When I was in Italy, it cost 48 euros for 20kg and everything arrived after 2 weeks. My stuffs are just used books and clothes. I don't know if it matters.

Any chance you can cut down? It might be cheaper to buy new when you get there for most things, apart from favourite and specialised books. Good luck.

My country is in Asia and there you cannot find all the books. ) plus the postage is too expensive. And the same goes for clothing. Poor me.

I recommend check with DHL, that should be quite good although you will have to make the custom clearance.
