Hi! I believe the best way to get information is from Home Office website. www.homeoffice.gov.uk
Here I'm a 100% sure you gonna feel like home. Asian people is majority. You find everything from home. I wish I could move to Switzerland, but I would have language problem as well.

Tier 1 visas are pretty restricted at the moment, best is to find a UK immigration forum and ask about those there.

Re: Switzerland Vs UK ( Tier 1 General permit Vs Restricted B permit)

I have a friend that applied for the HSMP....it was VERY frustrating! He paid £4k and then got it turned down by them because even though he had been teaching IT in a Church of England school for the last 2 years, he did not prove that he could speak english. He also sent in the documents from UCLA but not the actual Parchment and there was something else ridiculous. I don't know what its like for other countries but the UK will turn it down for the most ridiculous reasons and then have you pay another £4k to re apply. Also, the government in the UK are getting stricter as they want to cut down on immigration....unfortunately, they are doing this by cutting down on immigration amongst the people that the UK actually need here.

I don't know if this has helped at all or not, but I would say....do the application, get it checked over, check over it again, and again, make sure you have covered EVERYTHING before sending it!

It doesn't cost 4k for Tier 1.

And the requirements are clear, it's point's based and very well documented, if all the boxes are ticked there's no problem.

Also I'd add there are plenty of UK based and EU based people to fill any shortages, the myth of there being a huge skills gap in IT esp. is a fallacy.

Having said that I'm after getting out so someone can have my place!

Re: Switzerland Vs UK ( Tier 1 General permit Vs Restricted B permit)

Hi IndianWoman,

I have worked both in UK as well as working here in switzerland since last 4 years and my experience is

Pros CH
- Switzerland is more safe, good standards of living, less tax, overall clean and nice place to live.

Cons
- For non EU job change is really difficult
- Permit are not easily granted
- Its costly
- Language issues
- Limited option of social life
- for kids there are not many english schools and those international schools are dam costly.

Where as getting tier 1 visa is really easy and it does not cost much and provide you options to do contracting or whatever you want to do, good social life. UK one is eligible for PR after 5 year where as CH its long time wait.

Tier 1 visa cost 1300 chf and takes 4 to 5 working days if applied from CH. I got mine within 4 days.

However UK Tax is high as well as salary is less but there are plenty of options available.

Hope this helps

Thanks
IG
