| | | Leaving Switzerland - Overweight luggage
Hi everyone,
I will be leaving switzerland permanently at the of October. Now when i moved, I just flew over with easyjet, and added the max 10KG onto the 20KG that Easyjet allowed for one passenger. But given that it was a permanent move, I was 30 or so KG overweight with my luggage, and was charged just under 400 pounds. So I wanted to ask you guys to see if there are any other alternatives by which I can send back my stuff to the UK. I would really appreciate your help with this matter.
thanks in advance

10 years ago, I packed everything i had in boxes, called a local freight company, and bought 4 euro pallets from them (80x120 cm). stabled everything on them, and had them delivered to my parents. That cost me DEM 1100 plus VAT (equal to 550 euro plus VAT today) for Bremen - Copenhagen.
Doc.

check into prices to check in an extra piece of luggage that might also be cheaper.
when I moved back to europe from the United States I had four pieces of checked in luggage(someone else was helping me move) and it was all over weight. They wanted to charge 800 or so per bag.
Now, an extra bag was only 200 or so(I don't remember the actual figure); so had to redistribute the overweight content into that extra bag and voila! done and done!

It cost me 800 for 2 sofas, 1 bed, and loads of boxes. Give Luker bros a call, they're based in Oxford and come over every week.
Cheers

Cheers | | | | | haha no no. I live in a fully furnished place, so I would only be taking back my clothes, shoes and my tennis gear really. I can still take 30KG onto the plane, but I would think I will still have an extra 40-50 KG. We are talking about two / three suitcases max.

There are usually some nice people with a van or extra space in their car on the Ef that makes trips back to Uk. Maybe see if anyone is going back around the same time you are. Perhaps you could meet up with them somewhere.

One of the gents who replied to this post stated that I can post the things back. If that could work out cheaper, then I think it might be the best solution. I need to be in the UK on the 2nd of november, and cannot leave here no earlier than the 31st of october, so I think timing might be an issue even if i do find someone going back by van / car.

I agree with the sending everything over the post option. Friends of mine that moved to australia sent all their stuff by mail, it was the cheapest option !

If it's going to cost a few hundred CHF, why not go by a different airline, or fly a different class with bigger luggage allowance (or lower excess charges).
Or go by train.

Why not fly a friend over from the Uk for the last weekend - book one of your cases in with them on the way back.. obviously not packing anything dodgy...

I'm also leaning towards taking the train as suggested by one of the gents on here. no luggage restrictions.

there are all within the UK and sending from UK to abroad. Instead I went onto the local swiss DHL website to get a quote. It states that I can send a 30kg for 180 chf. that's not too bad really and it only takes 3-4 days.
thanks

The first extra bag up to 23kg is only about 30 quid if you fly with BA and book the extra bag online a few days before. Not sure about additional bags after the 2nd one though....
I just had the same problem in the opposite direction. Fortunately my wife's needed to be back in the UK a few weeks later. Business class is quite cheap as part of a return ticket (no more than my one way in economy) and she got an extra bag included.

Cheers | | | | | Hi there,
May I just ask, is the 800 CHF or GBP? We would need to move a similar amount of furniture over and might be interested.
