Leaving Switzerland and have a Swiss Bank Account. I plan on staying on here for my 3 allowed months as a tourist, but will not be registering my temporary address with the post. Is keeping my account open a problem until I leave?

I have a related inquiry: I am leaving Switzerland at the end of this year. I have quit my job, I will deregister from the country and travel for 6 months with a return ticket to Zürich (as a tourist) to pick up the rest of my belongings next June. However, I would like to travel out of my Swiss bank account. Is this possible?

As per my understanding, if the person can hold a saving bank account in Switzerland whilst not living in CH only thing is, in such situation, account mantainence fees goes up.

Sometime ago when I left Switzerland my bank account was still left open until I needed it again, the bank just sent my statements to the UK.

I have had a swiss bank account long before i moved here as long as u give your address in which ever country you moved to there is no problem.

Thank god it was still open when I got back one less thing to do!

Just don't tell them that you are moving to the US... then they will probably terminate the account.

Otherwise they will just post the letters to your new address abroad (and charge you a bit more for the postage).

If you decided to keep it.. change the bank notification from mail to email to lower extra costs.. or disable it. (check online)

You can inform to the bank that you are leaving and they will automatically close your account in 1 month period .They will also ask for your another account number to which they will transfer the closing balance amount.

CHF40 a month? Get outta here! I have a Postfinance a/c, currently costing CHF3 per month and my address is c/o a friend in Basel. I want it to remain open for my next couple of visits, last one probably March and then I will close it.

I'm hoping it is easy enough to do, being an online account. Any thoughts?

I remember not being able to open an account before I got my B permit. Also, when I told them I was moving to CH from the US, they had me sign some extra forms, so don't tell them you move to the US, as someone said earlier. I'm in a similar situation and will probably close my Swiss account and use some foreign account instead.

It depends to where country you're moving to and which bank you dealing with. I think if you are moving to a country inside the EU, you can keep your account without any problem, otherwise you should ask your account manager what the conditions are.

I called Credit-Suisse and got the same answer today.
40CHF/month for none permit support account.

Of course, I can maintain it with 6CHF/month as usual if I take the same way of you. Since bank has no idea for checking my leaving if I change the address and make it sure not to return their account report.

I have a cantonal bank account with Banque Cantonale Vaudoise (BCV).

Is it possible to close it in written form without going into a branch? I leave Switzerland on the 22nd December though am travelling around Europe until 26 January. Ideally, I would still like to use my BCV bank account until this time and withdraw money using my BCV debit card and then have it closed once home in Australia.

I know my best options are to go into a bank and ask directly, but thought I would try here first...
