Organizing a move back to the UK

Hi all,

Any tips for relocation companies when making a move from Switzerland back to the UK (south) for about 500 cubic metres (pretty much contents of a 1 bed flat)
I have done the space size estimate with World freights calculator and as I am sure that there are ways to haggle, would like to know where companies try and stick on the price, and on what grounds to bring the price down to a minimum.

Any help and advice - much appreciated!
thanks

AH01,

If your furniture is Ikea; then just sell it on this forum and get rid of it. Don't bother taking it back to the UK. Ikea furniture probably wouldn't be able to handle the move.
Then put the rest of your stuff on a pallet and shrink wrap it and get a freight company to take it to the UK.

I tell you this with my personal experience.

Good quality second hand furniture on E-bay in the UK is so cheap. I furnished a 6 bedroom; 5 reception room house for under £6,000 excluding mattresses but including two large Bosch fridge freezers and dish washers.

If you have time to plan; ring a few transport companies and ask for a "Return Load"; i.e. a lorry that is going back empty after delivering to Switzerland. This is rare because good old UK doesn't manufacture anything; so has nothing to export to Switzerland except Ex-pats on this forum.
