customs?

If I was to drive my stuff back to the UK in a lorry, what are the customs requirements in term of documents when a) leaving Switzerland, b) entering the UK, if any....would be normal contents of a 1 bed flat, no pets, no car...
Is there anything I should know if doing the above, that I might not have thought of?
thanks!

Re: customs?

You need to got to a Spedition in Switzerland, with your passport.

There is a form to complete and you need to make a detailed inventory, with every box numbered and the contents itemised.

Otherwise expect some long delays...

Re: customs?

Probably similar to import.

We needed all the boxes to be numbered and detailed of what was in it.
Beside the item, the current value or price.

The amount was only up to maximum 6000Euro to get the 4 pallets in ,free of any custom import charges.

Now thats driving from Ireland to here, i agree with Ittigen and let the pro's take care of it, they do it all the time.

Otherwise the chances you have to pay export here and import in the uk are big

I found DSV transport very usefull and competitive in both price and service.
Give them a shout, they will be happy to give you a qoute , you can still decide what todo.

For the stuff we brought over by car, same story, make invoice and price it.
We contact customs via email and got a friendly reply back explaining what we needed.. after all the paperwork was done, no one to be seen at customs but better safe then sorry.

So if you decide to do it on your own, just inform yourself with customs in CH and UK via email, always have it on paper.
Check what the import and export value limits are, and adjust your invoice accordingly but be reasonable, im sure they know the value of certain thing, if not they will google it.

Re: customs?

Great thanks -
Jsut weighing up the cheapest options really, so if anyone has removal companies they recommend that would be great.
out of interest 500cubic metres to ship from Switz to Uk would cost how much? if they pack and ship, and I orgnaise unloading the other end? With no storage costs involved. Just a rough estimate?

thanks!

Hi AH01

Sorry for the delay, went home for a few days and forgot all about this one

I paid per euro pallet, up to 2M high, and 800 kg heavy a price of 95€ + vat.
For this price, 4 pallets moved over in 4 days time.
I handed them all pro forma invoices and import documents, all the rest got sorted by Dsv.
Note the price was in May this year, from Ireland to my place in Switzerland.
Prices will change, and i did enough business with them in the passed 7 years, non the less, the price per pallet should not be more then 110/120€ per pallet.

One day before delivery i was called to inform my pallets would be delivered the next day.

Other then drawing up the paperwork and dropping the goods down to the depot, i din't have to worry a bit.

They took all the hassle and possible troubles out of my hands, well worth the money.
Afterall, its the agent's job todo so, he/she knows import inside out and can act quick if needed.

If you do it yourself, chances are you will be sent from a to b to c back to a to c etc.. Spare yourself the troubles and go with a transport company.

I don't work for any transport company mind you so i don't have any idea of prices what so ever, they change so soon you better check.
Price quote 's stand for 2 weeks or less depending on the volume.

Since your volume is large, calculate how many pallets, (standard or euro pallet ) you will need, or ask if they provide crates.

Here are the contact details of Dsv Uk , contact them for more info and a qoute http://www.dsv.com/irj/servlet/prt/p...ository/UK/ENG

* Please note i am not affiliated to Dsv , just a happy customer private and ex work *
