Truck Hire

Hi Guys,

any suggestions on rental of a truck, like an Iveco 16m3, for a B driving permit. European rentals.

Seen them on Sixt, and looks enough to fit my belongings, however they don't do a one way trip, so I am looking for a company where you can drive one leg (pick up Zurich) and drop off at the final destination (UK) rather than traipsing all the way back empty.

Have got a copy of the UK Customs C3 form, just need to get my hands on an inventory list form to complete as I understand all boxes need to be itemised and valued. Can you do your own inventory list, or is there an official template?

Any suggestions would be a great help.

thanks!

Re: Truck Hire

A few thoughts.

If you get no luck with a one-way trip then I suggest you fly to the U.K, get the truck there, drive it back here and then head back to he U.K. with your stuff.
It will be probably be cheaper.

Be aware that it's almost impossible to get contents insurance for your stuff while it is in transit if you self-drive.

In Zurich, if you give the Police some notice and a small payment, they should be able cordon off an area for you to park the truck whilst you unload.

We did it with a 7.5 tonne lorry from UK to here a few years ago.

I think a one way hire would be impossible, what would a UK company do with a LHD van? There are a couple of options:
Hire here and pay someone to help load/unload and return the van,
Go back to Blighty and hire from the UK,
Check folks like grumpygrapefruit or spacey as they go back to the UK frequently, or PM Evilshell as she got a guy from the UK who fitted it in.

Re: Truck Hire

When I moved from the Netherlands to the UK I got my brother to hire a Luton in the UK and drive it to NL along with a mate - we then loaded it and drove it back to the UK.

Cheers,
Nick
