My husband and I desperately need haircuts in or near Lausanne. We just moved and have no idea where to go. We both speak some Italian and French so they don't have to be Anglophile....just want them to be good.

Looking for someone who can do stylish, chic cuts. Not looking for a super-high end place, though (under $100).

I have just been to a terrific hair salon in Lausanne, (I found the salon recommended on this forum), and am happy to report I love my new cut and am thrilled with my highlights by Nicole. She is charming, professional and speaks several languages, including english. Here is the salon:

I know that hair styling and cuts are really individual and one man's trash is another man's treasure so take this with a grain of salt.

I went to Chez Maxim recently and left underwhelmed. I told her (she's an American woman who has been here for 6 years) that I wanted something urban chic/cool. I told her that I liked precision cuts and usually straighten my hair.

What she gave me instead was a super-imprecise razor cut (Like the ones that were popular 10 years ago in the States) and then a blow out with a big rounded brush giving me adorable curls. I looked like a senator's wife. And when I told her that she made me look like a china doll she just shrugged and told me that I could fix it how I wanted when I went home. When I did style it myself, using a straightening iron, I realized that the ends are all uneven, as well as being 4 or 5 inches shorter when I asked for a trim. And there are random layers everywhere in my hair....and not in a good way.

Again, she seemed like a really nice lady, but this definitely was not the sort of cut for me. I just thought I would write this review for the informational purposes of others who may be thinking about going there.

For girls who like edgy trendy cuts, there's Sculpt Scalp in rue de la Tour right across from the Café de la Tour (the place that does 27fr all you can eat gambas).

I either to go to the hairdresser's that's just below the tower in rue de la Tour or to the place next to the male underwear store on avenue de Beaulieu. Both are next to place Chauderon but on opposing (east-west) sides. Good quality men's cuts.

Barbers using just the razor don't really exist out here.

Hello! I would like to revive this thread by asking again: anyone know any *cheap* places where my boyfriend can get a decent haircut in/near Lausanne? I checked out one place that was 40CHF... I'm looking to spend 20 or less.

My father in law goes to a school to get his haircut, I think it is around 20 francs. I used to take my son there as well. I'm not sure where you are in Lausanne, but we would go to the one on Ave. du Grey.

My husband has his hair cut at French-Cut on Avenue De LA Gare. He paid 25 chf for a proper cut. The number is 021 311 2236

there is a good salon "L'atelier" I go to on rue Caroline 5 in Lausanne and I am very happy with my stylist - his name is Nicolas. He does a very good job for female cuts and coloring . There are other stylists there who do serve male clients and I have seen their work - look very good. The phone is 0213122209. THough of course the hair styling is so individual, you have to try a few to understand what you like and need.

I vote for this one too (the avenue du grey one, there is another one on one of the shopping streets and one on rue maupas).

The closest bus stop is grattapaille on the 21 bus line. I am female, but a wash cut and color was only like 60 chf, so a man's haircut must be hecka cheap.

There are hair salons on every street corner!

Towards the west of city centre you can find competitive prices, 10 minutes walking from city centre on Avenue d´Echallens for example. Go in and inquire as you walk by.
