Summer Studies

I am wondering if anyone knows something about these sorts of programs: where you take a course, seminar or something else for a couple of weeks in, let's say, ETH in Zurich or somewhere. Like summer school or a summer program. Or any kind of school involving thing.
I know of programs like these from my university, but all the offered destinations are somewhere in China, Japan or Australia; and I've always wanted to come visit Switzerland.
I couldn't really find anything on ETH's website, but I might have missed it. Or does anyone know someone who would know that I can contact?

Hey, hey - spelling courses are great!

Perhaps he meant the title - or is this something I've just never heard of?

Re: Summer Studies

Seriously, I didn't change it as I genuinely wasn't sure if it wasn't yet another thing which had come along recently and which I hadn't caught on to yet.

Re: Summer Studies

Well, browsing through the forum, I did see a couple of people who were studying engineering or are finishing their Masters, PhDs. Are all those students, people who just applied to study there, and have never before been to Switzerland? I mean, if I do that, and don't like it there, I'll be stuck for some time there, and will waste a lot of money.
I just want to how did the students there check out the place before they applied.

Im sure there is a summer course or perhaps a exchange semester that you could possibly do with your current university. But perhaps, sometimes these things are better if you take a risk and just get on with it. I work with PhD students that have come from overseas to work at UZH and they didn't "check it out". They applied, got in and moved.

If you're worried about liking the country then theres no real point studying here imo. You come for the work. You can make fun anywhere

Oh, don't tell me that those mountains are for nothing!
Seriously, if I hadn't checked out Stockholm, I could have been stuck with no proper sleep for 2 year (no offense to Swedish people, but it gets dark at like 2am during the summer).

Could you expand a little more on this?

Re: Summer Studies

Dive straight into I mean. If there is a good course that you feel would suit you perfectly or there is a great supervisor who would be a perfect fit for you, I wouldn't be dicking surround with asking what place suits you best. You just have to go with it.

Im a postdoc and I didn't particularly choose Switzerland to live (although I like it here), I chose my supervisor to be a person I wanted to work with. He just happened to work in Zurich. If he worked in Sweden I would be there right now
