Every day I pass and admire the Syngenta building (the old one, not the tall one) opposite Badischer Bahnhof in Basel.

It has the initials "JRG" on the top and I am always impressed by it's simple but imposing design - helped by the big chunky bars on the windows. It reminds me of an old police station.

Does anyone have any idea of what JRG was and of the building's history?
