Returning unwanted goods

Hi,

I bought a shower curtain from Coop City in Zug and only when I had opened it up did I realise I had bought one that is too long.

Can anyone tell me how shops (Coop in particular) are about returning goods here? Good shops in the UK usually let you take stuff back even when opened as long as it's not used. Which my shower curtain isn't. I just want to take it back and exchange it for a shorter one. Do I stand a chance?

Re: Returning unwanted goods

Hi,

From my experience Coop do do an exchange service. Unfortunately, I bought some alcohol free beer (the shame!) and needed to exchange it for real beer. I took it back to the Customer Service Counter and she swapped the bottles no problem at all! Good luck

As long as you have the receipt, it should be no problem.

Coop alcohol-free beer, especially the bio stuff, tastes real good. YOu should have kept it and supplemented it with vodka chasers to taste.

Yep I had that experience too. I bought a bedding and all and all I needed to show them was the receipt and no problem at all. so no worries

Re: Returning unwanted goods

You shouldn't have a problem!! I've returned a bunch of stuff here to many different places, including Coop, and never had any problem. It can take a little time to process the return (may have just been my experience since I don't speak German), but no one has ever given me a hard time. Good luck!

Re: Returning unwanted goods

Hi Guys,

Do any of you know what it's the rules for the returning good policy?
In EU it's about 7 working days, and you can claim you money back if the good doesn't meet your expectation. No questions asked.

Thank you

Re: Returning unwanted goods

If there's nothing wrong with the good, it depends on the contract to sell and the seller's goodwill. The law grants no grace period except for telemarketing and door-to-door sales (link).

Returning faulty goods is one thing but returning unwanted goods is probably only covered by the goodwill of the shop, or at least that's how it was in the UK.

Not sure of the rules in Switzerland though.

At least in Germany, web shops have to take back goods for a week after the sale, without explanation. The situation in Switzerland is different though.

Tesco is one place in the UK that will take goods back with no explanation. They did an advertising campaign where the lady came back to the shop with a fish she had bought earlier but had changed her mind when she got home because it "looked too much like her husband".

Sorry, that still doesn't help with the situation in Switzerland but, as a guide, the handbag shop up Rennweg in Zurich (forgot the name of the shop) took my Rossi handbag back (with receipt) because I realised I had bought one of the wrong shade of brown. They happily exchanged it for the one I wanted.

Re: Returning unwanted goods

Last year my daughter got a really nice top for her birthday, but it was to small, so when i finally got the reciept to take it back and exchange it (2 weeks later) they would not take it back even for an exchange.

I have taken things back to the coop, with the receipt, and had no problems in exchanging the goods (ok it was within a few days) of the purchase
