How to use compost bin?

Ok, sorry for another trash question, but I cannot figure this out.

There seems to be a grün abfall (green rubbish) bin for trash where I can put food scraps or plant material (this is what I think). I collect the food scraps that I have in my kitchen in a small little plastic baggy and throw it out very often so as not to stink up the place. Now, I have to take this little baggy and dump all of the contents out in the special green container w/o the bag, then walk home with the dirty bag and dispose of that in the correct trash bin. Is there a way that people deal with this easier than I do? I cannot figure out what people do.

Thanks.

Re: How to use compost bin?

Buy the biodegradable bin liners (available in every supermarket) and use these. Then you can throw them away along with your compostable rubbish. The downside is that they are fairly expensive (I've no idea why?) but it's worth it in terms of not having to deal with the stench.

I know many people who use no bag at all, they simply empty their bin directly into the compost and then wash it.

Thanks, I was thinking of doing that and using one of my old yogurt containers. Didn't know they had biodegradable liners either.

kitchen waste/compost tips wanted

I'd like to compost everything that is organic from the kitchen. Currently a bag lies around and becomes smelly after a short time before I get shouted at by Mrs Lorenheim and it either goes outside for the garden or, very sadly, goes in the normal non glass/paper/plastic/metal 'wastey' waste.

I've seen some people have special bins with charcoal filter lids and all sorts of clean enhancing, smell reducing and generally nice to have advantages, but I have no idea where to look for an 'easy to clean', 'simple to use' system for doing the garden waste. Of course, being diligent and taking stuff out every day is the solution, but when the snow is on the ground and the compost heap at the end of the garden is a long walk away, it's not so appealing.

Can anyone give tips on how to achieve a clean kitchen and 100% peelings/skins/left overs etc used outside.

Thanks

Re: How to use compost bin?

Charcoal filters. I live in an appartment and have a normal compost bin with cover, similar to this one. I think I bought it in a garden shop. I store the compost outside on the balcony, this way I don't have to walk through the snow every day (respectively to where our garden is, uphill both ways ).
